A lot concerned!

I am 8 weeks post op. I went in to be checked and the Dr. said my vaginal walls have seperated and I am at risk of my small intestines "falling out". He then informs me if that happens that there is a 50% mortality rate and there is nothing he can do. He has put me on 6 more weeks of limited activity. I am pretty stressed out now and not sure what to do. Has anybody else had this.experiance or any advice. It will be much appreciated, thank you.

Re: A lot concerned!

There is nothing he can do? That sounds insane! I'd get a second opinion and a new doctor. If that isn't his specialty then maybe he needs to refer you to someone else? My thoughts are with you in this. Best of luck!

Re: A lot concerned!

What does he mean the vag walls have separated? Does he mean your cuff has come open? If so, I think they usually take you back to surgery and stitch you back up. They can't just let your intestines come out! I agree, I would go see another doctor. Wishing you the best.

Re: A lot concerned!

Yes the cuff, he blames it on relations with my husband after 6 weeks. He is a specialists in his field and has been my Dr for the past 7 years and has done several procedures on me so I have always trusted his judgement. I asked him if we could go back in and restitch and he says that is not an option.

Re: A lot concerned!

Well if it was truly badly torn, they would sew you up. Perhaps you just are not healing well. I had something called granulation and they cauterized it and said a few more weeks of restricted activity. Which I did and now I'm doing OK. Perhaps it is something between a full out tear and totally healed and he just wanted to caution you as to the seriousness of it if things do tear. Maybe he just didn't communicate well to you. I think a specialist if there was a large tear would have you back in to get sewn up really quick.

Re: A lot concerned!

I am sorry to hear the your doctor gave you this type of diagnosis but something is just not right. How can he say there is nothing that can be done ? I have heard vaginal cuff be repaired why cant he ? there is something missing into what he told you. I seriously think if he is telling you there is a 50% mortality rate and he cant do anything about it, that you get a second opinion( i know his been you doctor for a while now) But is you life on the line. I can say i have never heard of it not being able to be repaired. I pray for you to get some answers and better alternatives to you situation.

Remember is your life not the doctors....

Re: A lot concerned!

I also have had granulation removed bit it was clipped ad they could not remove it all due to my body needs some of it to try to build a bridge for healing purposes. I have decided on a second opinion from Cedar Sinai Hospital, they have some amazing doctors there. I sat crying in his office asking my Dr options and he simply said there were none, it was just time.

Re: A lot concerned!

Something is really wrong here!

I would definitely get a second opinion from another specialist! The year is 2011 not 1911...... There is always something that can be done. I don't like your doctor.

Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers! Please keep us informed!!!

So you have not had your second opinion yet? You do need one.
I don't care how much I liked or knew a DR. a 50% death rate would mean a second or even a third opinion. I would not choose a wait and see policy...
Prayers and hugs for you....

Re: A lot concerned!

Well, for one, I will pray for you. Two. This is crazy, you need to have surgery and have it closed up. That is nuts. What the heck. im honkerblonked off for you right now and very worried.
Go get a second opinion, get a wheelchair so you are not walking around a lot.
Please update us.
