28 and no HRT allowed - please help!

Hi, ladies. I am 28 and had a TAH/BSO in May. I was on estrogen replacement b/c my dr. said I really needed it since I had surgical menopause at such a young age.

This week, I was hospitalized for a blood clot and had to come off the HRT for at least 6 months. I may not be able to take it after that - they haven't decided yet.

I tend to get all of the common menopause symptoms, esp. hot flashes and mood swings. I also want to prevent osteoporosis, etc.

Any advice? :hair:

Thanks!

I am in the same boat you are...only a bit older (41). I can't take HRT either due to having a stroke last year.

There is quite a bit of info over on the No Hormone Desert Oasis board. There are some discouraging chains but there is also one very positive chain that I like to point out as it has helped me a lot. Here's the link:

There are some ladies your age in that chain.

There are preventative drugs that can be given for osteoporosis. In my doc's words, 'there are a lot of things we can do in that area. It's a concern but not as big of one as it use to be.'. So, I expect to have to start on some sort of osteo med at some point. (I think Actonel is the popular one right now. Don't know if that's what I'll be on eventually or not.)

I am happy to say that I have not experienced any menopausal problems 3 weeks after my surgery. I attribute some of that to the fact that I was determined not to 'suffer' from menopause. I think that attitude is more than 1/2 the battle.

I think you can find some positive info from folks over on the Oasis board - and from people closer to your age.

Best wishes - and I'm glad that they caught your blood clot before you had any devastating effects from it.
