Hysterectomy scheduled for June 15th

I have been scheduled for a hysterectomy on June 15th due to a complex cyst and septated cyst on my right ovary. (I also have a small simple cyst on the right ovary.) I also have several fibroids and a complex cyst in my uterus. There was also an unidentifiable spot in the uterus which could have been fluid since I was 5 days from starting my monthly period. In any case, the doctor said due to my age (44), getting more cysts and them becoming complex and septated, and the fact that my sister died of endometrial sarcoma last year at the age of 40, he recommends a hysterectomy and removal of both ovaries.

The doctor did a CA125 last week which came back at 20.3 which they tell me is a good number. The doctor took a biopsy of my uterus last Friday and I'm to find out those results tomorrow or Wednesday. He has also scheduled a CT scan for this Thursday in that I told him I wanted him to be as sure as he could be what all he was dealing with before cutting me open. He is just a general gynecologist. In that so far there isn't any tests that are showing cancer, I will allow him to do the surgery. However, if something changes with the biopsy or the CT scan, I will seek a gyn/oncologist.

The thing that scares me the most is the effect it will have on my sexual response, etc. I already have a problem with having orgasms due to anti-depressants (anyway that's what I suspect).

I am just now doing research on the effects, complications, etc. of undergoing a hysterectomy.

Does anyone have any words of wisdom for me at this point.

Hysterectomy scheduled for June 15th

Hi,

Well I agree that antidepressants can certainly muck your sexual response up and certainly so can severe pain.

I spoke with my gynae man and have also read several articles that indicate that sexual pleasure would be better if you were suffering pain (as per me) as the pain would no longer be there. As for anything else, I can only assume that things should be ok but we are all individuals and it must vary from person to person.

You are right to read up about the procedure but trying to find unbiased views was soo difficult until I found this site.

Take care
