Pre-Op Hysterectomy Testing Nervous

I'm 37 years old and scheduled for a TLH (keeping my ovaries) on 12/2....because I've had controlled hypertension for a few years now, I had to be cleared by my PCP for surgery. Yesterday I saw her and had a non-specific EKG, I guess not exactly abnormal but not normal either. My heart rate was up, too. I'm also anemic (shocking ha ha) and getting over a head cold. Plus just thinking about the surgery makes my heart beat a little faster. So maybe all three factors contributed to the EKG.

My doctor said there wasn't anything to worry about but she wants me to have an echocardiogram before she clears me for surgery - an ultrasound of the heart.

I'm really nervous now that they'll find something wrong with my heart. I have no other symptoms (like chest pain or shortness of breath) but I'm still scared. Feel sort of like everything is spinning out of control. I just want to get through this surgery and have it behind me.

I'm waiting for a call to get it scheduled now so I'm anxious about the timing, too. With Thanksgiving next week I just want to get this in with plenty of time to still have my surgery on the 2nd.

I was under general in June for my myomectomy and had no issues....I know she's being ultra careful and I should be grateful (I am) but I feel like such a mess. I just want this over with.

Oh I can understand hon. I'm sure it is like you said.. they just want to be extra careful. I don't know where you are but here they can see results pretty much as soon as they are entered into a computer. Also keep in my mind she wouldn't have kept your surgery date on the 2nd if she thought she wouldn't have the results in time. So really try to relax and just think of this as a baseline Echo for when you get old like me. LOL

Thanks ADN, I appreciate the reply! I do feel better now than I did this morning. My echo is scheduled for tomorrow so at least timing isn't going to be an issue. My doctor should have the results by Monday.

I was talking to a nurse friend of mine today and she thought if there was something serious my doctor was concerned about, I'd be having a stress test or seeing a cardiologist. I'm going to take her advice and yours and just relax for now. It will be nice to have this info, too, like you said for the future.

I'll be so glad when this is all behind me, I seem to be so much more sensitive these days.

Good luck gal! I hope all goes well for you! I am having mine on the 2nd as well. They haven't called to schedule my pre-op testing. I have to get an X-ray for some reason. I' not sure if that's normal or not.I hope all goes really great! Also, good luck on the 2nd!!

Re: Pre-Op Hysterectomy Testing Nervous

Thanks for the encouragement, sisters! Just over a week to go...I did have the echo of my heart on Friday and all looks well. Nothing to worry about now except normal pre-suregery jitters, I guess.

I hope all goes well for you ladies too!! We're all about the same time it sounds like....so we'll see each other in the post op forum soon.

Lots of closet cleaning/organizing done today. Big cleaning plans next weekend before I go in on the 2nd. Feels good to be busy and preparing.

Hugs to all,
Kelly
