surgery tomorrow...? about stairs

I had no problem with stairs with a TAH. Just take them slow, placing both feet on one step before moving onto the next.

surgery tomorrow...? about stairs

Hi Nancy

I had a TAH/BSO and was able to do stairs by the time I got home. I basically stayed downstairs all day and went upstairs to go to bed a night. I took it real easy so I wouldn't overdo it.

Everybody's body and healing time is different. Use your judgement as to doing stairs. You can try them, but use your own discression as to how often.

I'll be thinking about you tomorrow and cheering you on!

Sending you a big

Patty

My DR told me to limit my trips on the stairs to 1-2 times a day. Depending on your surgery and your DR, there may be more or less limits put on you. Ask the DR what YOUR instructions will be.

Besides the strain stairs put on your body, there is the risk of tripping or falling. So, hold the rail, even if you normally don't and take it real slow and easy. Getting both feet on the step before starting to go to the next one, as Patches says, is a good idea.

Best Wishes!

I had a LAVH/BSO and didn't have any problems with stairs. However, I was off all narcotics before I got home. If you're at all woozy, have someone with you. I became highly aware how easily accidents can happen and the last thing I would have wanted was a nasty fall.

Ask your DR. They're the one who has the inside scoop when it comes to the details of your surgery and your needs for recovery.
