Very Concerned...

I was not sure where to go, or who to ask. Thank God I found this web-site. Hopefully, someone will be able to direct me. My mother who is 51, had a total hysterectomy (still has ovaries) 16 years ago. However, just recently she noticed she has blood on her toilet paper when she wipes, after urination. A little heavy at first, then after two or three more wipes it's gone, until the next urination. She has no cramps or pain, and it was really quite a surprise. Is this something that she needs to be concerned about? The problem is, her and my father currently have no medical insurance, so the cost to go to the Dr. is high, and even more devestating would be if she were diagnosed with something serious, the cost to get insurance with a pre-existing condition would be tremendous. What advice could anyone give?

Firstly - without your health you have nothing, so I think your mother should go to the dr ASAP, she has to put her health first. More than likely it wil be something minor like an infection but not going to the dr won't change what it is.
If by chance it turns out to be something more serious having it treated early will give her a much better outcome.

I'm sure everything will be ok, going to the dr is the only way to know for sure though and it will also put your mother's mind at ease.

Hi (((ch7877)))
I'm sorry to hear that your mother is having some bleeding. This is a matter that needs to be checked out by a dr. There is an article on Bleeding after a Hysterectomy that will give you some helpful insight on what could be causing it. It could be something as simple as vaginal dryness, but has the potential of being much more serious.

I feel so badly for her that she's facing this without insurance. Have you done some research on what options are available to your parents? They really need to have health coverage and the sooner the better. If it's in any way possible to secure some insurance before she goes to the dr I would do that. Often states will offer help and have you looked into medicare for her? The AARP also offers some insurance plans that might be affordable.

I hope you can find insurance, but if not she really needs to make arrangements to see a dr before too long in case this is one of the more serious causes on that list. Please keep us posted. I hope this turns out to be not a big deal at all. My best wishes to your (((mother))).
's, Rita
