Breathing pain

I had a TAH/BSO on 10-3...My surgery was on Tues morn and I came home on Thurs morning and did just fine till Sunday before my 3 weeks was up. I started feeling sore to breathe, that night I had to get up at midnight from so much pain in the right side of my back all the way up to my collar bone---VERY sharp pains..Once I was up they got better..The next day I tried to tough it out but it got worse as the day went on. I finally called the Dr. and he thought I was trying to throw a blood clot in the lungs so i had to go to the ER and have chest x-rays and lung scan and blood work.. When the Er Dr got the results and came in to examine me he found that the cartlige around the ribs and collar bone was sore so he said it was skeletal and sent me home.. There was NO WAY I could lay down that night..the next day I tried walking and moving about more--just got worse-- finally afriend of mine said everytime she had surgery she hurt in the collar bone area and it was GAS!!! Then my neice just had a c-section and she was hurting like I was and they said gas--- so I took some GasX and feel great today still a little sore when I breathe deep but I walked a mile and two tenths this morning and haven't sit down all day... Has anyone else had these kind of pains---these last few days have been the worst days of the surgery !!!!

side affect of anesthesia

KIm-
I can honestly say that my hysterectomy was the first surgery where I didn't suffer from this (and I have had 13 counting hyster).
I remember the feeling all to well, so much pain in my shoulders I could cry. What it is from is anesthesia creating gas bubbles in the muscle or tissue. It is not the "digestive gas". It is something that over time works itself out. I don't remember having breathing problems although if your are hurting sometimes it pain will affect the way you breath (trying not to move too much, if you breath deep you are moving and it creates more pain, may be something you are doing unconsciously).
Anyway, it is normal and it does go away, but it usually takes a few days.
