8 weeks and still feeling pretty bad....

Hello to all!
Well, I am ready to start feeling better. I had an abdominal supracervical hysterectomy July 26th due to long, heavy periods and a cantaloupe sized fibroid on the outside of the uterus. I took it easy (bed rest) for 9 days and then had to start working. I work at home, so it is just long hours at a desk. I have done no heavy work and yet I am still having terrible swelling and cramping. I also feel like a rope is being pulled across the incision. The feeling gets worse as the day goes on. I also have very little energy. Anyone out there who is further down the line with a few words of encouragement? I have the busiest month of the season coming up (October) and will be required to be on my feet for hours at a time. HELP!!!!

I think at 8 weeks I would speak to your dr. Tiredness is really common - sometimes for months - after a hyst. However your other symptoms should be addressed just to make sure everything's OK.
Keep us posted.

I had LSH on July 17 and still feeling poorly also. Pain just under left breast, still no zippered pants or ANYTHING that actually fits my belly.

Hey - thanks for the replies gals. It is hard to be down when work and family requires the opposite. My Doctor has told me everything is fine - even getting slight periods (I am now having my second since surgery.) But everyone I know who has gone through this has told me that at my stage of 8 weeks, soreness and swelling of the tummy was long gone. Thanks for letting me have my pity party!

EBR,

I was told that you have to spend some time actually lying down when you are recuperating. You may have to give your body more lying down time. You may have had other repairs done, besides your hysterectomy, and need more rest. Talking to your doctor is essential, but it sounds like more 'real' rest is needed, as well. Good luck, and be kind to yourself!

Best Wishes

I'm with the last poster. I think you need to lie down during the day for a little while to get out of that same position. I find sitting puts pressure in that are and my swelly belly at 4 pm or so is worse. I think the tiredness is very normal. The pain might just be from pushing yourself too hard. I am sending you best wishes for your comfort and wisdom to know when to step away from the desk and put your feet up for a few minutes. Hang in there. Be patient with your body. It's going to feel how it feels... go with it rather than fight it and get upset. Take care.
