22 days post-op

Have been on the emotional rollercoaster ride, feel frustrated with all the major and minor aches & pains. I don't have any of my family close and I didn't 'Tell the World', or facebook, that I was having surgery as I don't share such personal stuff like that. Yesterday was better than today for pain though I can tell I'm on a slow and stead path to healing. Feeling alone on this journey, even though my brains knows I'm not alone, is not a good feeling.

You are in the right place. I just had my surgery and came home yesterday. Hang in there, I am a private person too and have never joined a support group online. I know from past experience that exercise (if you are cleared to do so) and getting on a good clean diet is a really good way to help you feel better. Walk as much as you can and do yoga breathing, stretching, etc. It's too hard to do this by yourself. Stay with the group for a while. I found another sister who had her surgery on the same day as mine and she and I are talking a bit. Maybe it will help you to connect with one or two people. You are not alone. Blessings and peace to you and your body.

Re: just found this group, 22 days post-op

Thank you, Dreading It. I wish I would have searched out a support group sooner. It wasn't until I was feeling very depressed that I realized I needed some help. I cleaned my diet April 2015. I don't eat processed foods, wheat, sugar or much for dairy. My diet consists of a lot of veg, fruit and some meat. I didn't know that I was sensitive to wheat. Not long after I quit eating it I lost 20 pounds and my joints quit hurting. I had completed my first 5K two weeks prior to surgery. I guess the current state of inactivity is bugging me - been feeling muscle pains. I admit I haven't been doing breathing like I probably should be and stretching has been minimal. On 6/11 around 1 in the morning I woke my husband to help me go to the bathroom. He had been under a lot of stress trying to maintain the mowing (2+ acres) and do all the housework and shopping. He didn't wake up but was sleep walking. It was so funny that I started to laugh, which resulted in such severe pain that screaming was all I could do. So, with that set back I've been super careful not to stress anything more than it had already been stressed. I'm glad I put my apprehensions aside and joined this group. Feeling understood and accepted does wonders for mental health, which in turn, helps healing. Thank you for your reply.

Re: just found this group, 22 days post-op

Sounds like we are kindred spirits. I work out all the time and this inactivity is already making me nuts. I walked around the block (well, halfway) this morning and it was OK but enough to put me back in bed for about 2 hours. I honestly think some of the emotional stuff, at least for me, is the fact that I am not getting my normal endorphins from exercise. I also feel like I weigh about 20 lbs more than I normally do, which doesn't help. That is funny about your husband (not the pain you had to go through, but it made me chuckle anyway). Mine is a great guy but is very, very squeamish, which makes him close to useless for most things right now and he is standing at my bedside with his hands on the sides of his head most of the time. He also means well but let's face it, doesn't know what this feels like or how to deal with me being emotional. So I'm glad to be with people who have or are going through this, it makes me feel less neurotic Take care, Lee

Re: just found this group, 22 days post-op

I Love mowing our very large lawn, especially smelling the fresh cut grass. I asked one of the neighbor boys to mow it so hubby wouldn't have to, still got to smell the fresh cut grass.
I've been walking around the yard - fresh air and increased circulations. I usually don't feel any twinges or pains when I walk, just get pooped really easily. It seems like my legs are atrophying and the muscles in my back get tired and bug me. I go to bed early enough to get 7-8 hours sleep, if I could sleep through the night. It's just been the last 3 days that I can get out of bed by myself, I feel like such a slug moving at a snail's pace. I keep telling myself to be patient as I'm not 'young' and my body is doing the best it can to heal. I drink plenty of water (60-70 ounces a day), eat mostly of veg, know I need more protein as my hair is getting thinner. I just haven't been very hungry. I haven't had any problems with BM, several a day that are easy and painless.
As for hubbies, aren't they a hoot at times? I had discussed the procedure(s) I was going to have with both Docs, however, 2 days before surgery an additional procedure was added - bladder repair/sling. When I got home from the hospital, stayed only 1 night, I was a bit surprised to find my 'nether region' had been shaved/trimmed and that there was bruising and two small circular incisions. I was finally able to find some photos online of possibly what & why connected to the sling. When I told hubby what it looked like was possibly done he cringed. I'm just thankful it's all done and I know that things WILL get better, even if it feels like it'll take forever right now.
I am very appreciative of the support and connections with other women who are in the same situation. Men try to understand, its just not the same.
