Hysterectomy and fibromyalgia

Hi Everyone. Is there anyone out there who has had a TAH and also has fibro? I am having mine on Wednesday the 16th due to very large complex ovarian cyst (other ovary removed 6 years ago for the same reason) and also have adenomyosis. I have been having the muscle pain and fatigue of fibromyalgia and think it is worse because of stress. My rheumatologist warns that any trauma to the body can exacerbate fibro. Unfortunately, I can't put off the TAH because of the size of the cyst. GYN is afraid of rupture. Any words of wisdom would be appreciated.

I do hope you get a response addressing your question because I've been dx'd with fibromyalgia secondary to ankylosing spondylitis. I didn't here about the surgery making the pain worse. I heard the opposite from gyn. So, it will be great to view the responses.

I had TVH, anterior repair, bladder sling, large fibroid at opening of uterus yesterday, and I can tell you I haven't felt this great in 6 years...

Yes, my surgery was yesterday morning and I came home this morning. I kept my ovaries, but my uterus had to be taken out in pieces due to the massive size of it.

I feel so good~ and can't wait til the tenderness and swelling go down, but I was up walking late yesterday and kept it up all day! Rest, sleep and drink lots of water. I don't know about anyone else, but NOTHING tastes good at all. I don't know if it's from the anesthesia, but ugh, water is all I can handle....

Stay positive and just think of how great your going to feel when you are done!

I'd do it again in a heartbeat, my only regret is not having it done a long time ago.

I have fibro. I am currently 28 and I had my surgery last June (2006.) I too was worried about my fibro and my rheumy said that it could be a traumatic period. I asked that my pain medication for"take home" after the surgery have an anti-inflamitory component to help with the join pain, and I tell you I really think I felt just the normal aches and pains of most of the sisters here. Recovery went mostly smoothly, a few fibro bumps are normal, days of flares and what not, but really I am glad that I had the surgery. I won't be home until late tonight, but I will check again...PM me if there is anything specific that I can answer for you. I am always happy to help a syster in need!!!

i've had more problems with fibro since the hyst but also had a major flare up (landed in er) in october 05. that was stress from being flooded by hurricane katrina. also since the hyst, my emotions tend to be all over the place and i'm reacting to stress differently. since fibro is affected by stress, i guess it's natural to have more pain.

thank goodness for pain killers and muscle relaxers!
