Need advice ASAP - Surgery in the morning

My doctor told me I didn't have to do the day before prep as long as I promsed to have a BM the day before. I'm pretty regular so I said no problem.

Well... Saturday night/Sunday morning I had an intruder in my yard. I let my dogs out at 3:15 am and stepped outside with them on my patio and soon as I let them in, a man dressed all in black wearing a black knit hat came out of no where and started to approach me, I screamed as loud as I could and ran back into the house and called 911. The police came and never found him, needless to say, have barely slept or eaten anything since then. (My mom's staying with me tonight so will hopefully be able to get some rest).

Since I've hardly eaten anything, no BM's. I tried to eat Chinese for lunch today and was able to eat the rice, eggroll, fortune cookie and a small portion of the chicken (I usually eat the whole thing) and even drank a cappucinno (sp?) on the way home from work (that usually does the trick for me)... NOTHING!!!

Probably too late to take anything.... (can't eat or drink after midnight) anybody have any home remidies they can share to get the ball rolling? If I don't have a BM what will that do?

Any info is appreciated. Thanks.

I didn't have to do a bowel prep before surgery either...but he did tell me to do a Dulcolax suppository the night before...and one at least 2 hours before I went to check in to the hospital. I found both times it worked within 30 minutes. That at least will clear out the bottom part of your intestines (which is the most important part to clear out).

Good Luck tomorrow sweetie...and I'm sorry to hear you had to go through so much of a scare!!!

Need advice ASAP - Surgery in the morning

I was admitted to the hospital on Monday evening and had my TVH on Friday morning. I had no bowel prep or enema prior to surgery and everthing was fine. I don't understand why some women have to do the bowel prep and others don't. It was never even mentioned to me. I just couldn't have any water or food after midnight on Thursday.

Please let you DR know before you go into surgery that you haven't had a BM. That may be fine, but they need to know, because otherwise they'll go into the OR believing that you have. It affects how difficult it is to get your GI tract out of the way while they're working, and means they have to be extra-extra careful not to nick anything there.

Good luck with your surgery!

s,
-Linda
