Anyone out 8 weeks?

Hi all!

Had my surgery January 17 - DaVinci - and then promptly got hit with the flu..........picked myself up from that, and then got hit with bronchitis, double ear infection, and a sinus infection! UGH! Had both ovaries removed, and that's been a bit of a struggle as those symptoms hit.

My doctor said 6 weeks as my cuff evidently was slowly healing, in his opinion at my 2 week check up.

I am hoping for another 2 weeks! I am a teacher, and just not feeling ready to be back to the stress and being on my feet all day. But I feel funny "asking" for more time off. (I have 100+ sick days, so that isn't the issue. My FMLA paperwork says I can take 4 - 8 weeks.)

Curious if others have been out for 8 weeks......or how they asked their doctor for more time off?

Re: Anyone out 8 weeks?

Don't be shy about telling your doctor you are not ready to go back. At my four week check my dr says , OK you're good. You can resume normal activities but no sex yet. I told her no way, not ready to go back to work. She didn't argue just asked what date I wanted her to put on release papers.

However, I was not collecting disability so she didn't have to do any paperwork. That being said , take all the time you are allowed, being on your feet all day again is exhausting. Listen to your body like everyone says. I'm 10 weeks out today and still get vaginal swelling, crampy and some spotting if I do to much.

Prayers

Re: Anyone out 8 weeks?

My LAVH was on 1/27/14. My FMLA return date is supposed to be on 3/10, but my clearance appointment is not until 3/12. So, I am waiting to hear from my GYN to see she recommends a one week extension. If you feel the need to take the additional time off, then please do so!

Re: Anyone out 8 weeks?

It's a mistake to go back if you know you're not ready. Especially a job that requires you to be on your feet all day. I sit all day, and that is very difficult. Miserably uncomfortable. I'm so sad that I didn't request more than 4 weeks.

Re: Anyone out 8 weeks?

My six week post op was last week and I asked to not go back till march 4th. I believed that I needed the extra two weeks. I have a very physical job and just did not feel comfortable going back this past sat. would have been my return date. Even though for the most part my recovery has been very good just energy wise it just is not in me yet. Also when I am on my feet for a while my stomach gets a little swollen and I get some cramping. So no I would just talk to your doctor and have them give you some more time. Most doctors normally would not have a problem with it. Good luck.

Re: Anyone out 8 weeks?

Thanks everyone for your responses...........It's funny how I view the doctor as having this power to say no to me.........I need to be stronger, I guess! :-)

Re: Anyone out 8 weeks?

This is my 8th week of recovery. I return to work next week. I'm a clinical director at a hospital and I walk a lot going from meeting to meeting all day, rounding in my departments etc. at my 6 weeks check up I simply told her I wanted 2 more weeks to which she thought was a good idea. I'm glad I did.
