Bacterial vaginal infection after intercourse

You are a very brave woman, but you know, if some of our doctors had truely informed us ladies on WHY NOT to have sex, then most of us wouldn't be doing it until we "really" go the ok. It is soooo much more than getting a bacterial infection. The reason why we shouldn't also is so that stitches are ripped or popped out of the vaginal cuff. If this happens it leaves our bodies open to all kinds of infection. When a stitch pops, it leaves a hole, the hole may be small, it may be big, but it still leaves a hole. This "Hole" takes a lot longer to heal than the vaginal cuff would if it wasn't there in the first place. It can cause the lots of pain in the long run and a LOT longer healing time with NO sex. I know this because I had to see the doc monday for getting a little ahead of myself and I am 5 weeks post op. Boy did I really get the what for from my doc. I was then told after the exam with the "ducky looking thing...lol" that I can't have sex for about another 2 weeks because the stitches are still there. Luckily I didn't pop anything, but it can happen.
Hope this helps ladies
For the visual on this.....
Put your hands together like you are going to pray, fold your fingers over interlocking them, this is how the vaginal cuff is sewn shut. Pop one finger out, this represents the hole a popped stitch can cause. This is the hole that leaves you open to infection if it is not healed.

An excellent post snowpea. You really take a mature subject and gave me an idea of why it is imperative to follow the doctor's advice. When it comes to activities after a hysterectomy it isn't a question of sex as much as it is of good health. This is a big deal surgery. I recall prior to surgery thinking it was like getting a toenail removed. People talked about it like it was nothing; but it is a big deal. I've got a 7 inch incision across my abdomen to prove it. I don't think we would be agitated about heeding our doctor's advice if we had a gal bladder or kidney removed.

Hi!

There are very good articles on this site which explain why it's important to wait to have sex. You'll find them in this link to the Post-Op Sex Checkpoint. There are also helpful Post-Op Articles which explain what a vaginal cuff is, what granulation tissue is, and a lot of other things we wonder about as we recover.

(((Ladies))), it's understandable that you want to resume having sex but it can't be stressed enough that you must get this clearance from your own doctor. Only your doctor can say for certain, by examining you, whether you are ready to resume any type of sexual activity. Be smart - ask your doctor first!

Wow. good for you ladies, as far as urge. Man, I'm two weeks post op this coming monday and am fine with waiting. I'm actually enjoying the fact that I'm not having sex. :-) Maybe it's me that's not normal.

Bacterial vaginal infection after intercourse

I just saw my doctor again today (I'm not quite five weeks out from having my cervix removed) and apparently I'm healing slowly. He said my vaginal cuff looks more like three weeks post-op than five weeks. He told me to wait at least another three weeks before intercourse because he said the risk of infection is HUGE before the cuff is healed.

He also told me complete healing of the suture line doesn't take place for a full three months, so we are to use extreme caution when we do have sex again. He said we have to be very careful about deep penetration because it's possible to open up the cuff up to three months following surgery.

Scared me enough to know I won't be risking it! Thankfully my husband is very understanding and he said even when the three weeks is up we'll just be creative and not push it until we know I'm healed.

Bacterial vaginal infection after intercourse

Hello Ladys, this is my first post, so be gentle with me?
I am at almost 6 weeks post hyst, and I had an overwhelming urge to jump on my fiance a week ago too!
I am only 31 and had a very active sex life before my op...

He was very reluctant, and worried he would hurt or damage me.....but when do us girls listen to NO?

All has been well since, although I do feel guilty for putting the pressure on my partner, he is such a gentle person.

It was everything I wanted and more....cant wait to be back in the swing of things again!

Well

I did everything the way I was told and more and still got a bacterial infection. So how about that? I am flip flopping between bacterial and yeast everytime I have sex.

I didn't even do anything and ended up with a bacterial infection...now I think I've got yeast...I can't win for losing.

Glad you had a good time, but be safe!
