Please help!!!!! Doc put me on Premarin and I am an emotional wreck! Is it the pill or me?
Hi all.
A little history before my question:
I had my hysterectomy 2/25 and it has been a massive challenge. I developed a vaginal hematoma and found out that I have a large fluid pocket on top of it near my bladder. I have been on total bed rest since my hysterectomy and been taking Augmentin 875 and Levaquin daily. My doctor has been asking me if I am feverish or feel as if I have as fever, as I am always hot now and the second I remove my hoodie or jacket I am freezing. I have not really run a high temp, I always run low. 97.5 to 98.6. the highest I have run has been 100.9 to 101.6 but thats about it. My doc is thinking I am getting Hot Flashes and that is causing my warmth. I don't know what they feel like, so I can't say. Regardless he put me on Premarin .3 daily now. He said that will keep hot flashes away. I have been on it a week now, and I don't understand if its the side effects to the meds or what, but I can cry at the drop of a dime. (NOT normal for me) I feel like I am emotional wreck, I have never had bad mood swings or crying spells like this, and this up and down roller coaster of moods. All I am being told is to give my body time to adjust. Does this mean I am gonna turn into this pyscho crybaby I feel like??????? (sorry if that offends anyone) Has any of you all ever experienced this? Is this normal? My husband is at his wits end, he just gives me a OMG really look now (which doesnt help) and shakes his head. Is this what hormones do to you? I know this has been a tryin expierence with the complications and me bein down, so I am wondering if its the stress thats getting to me or a side effect of the meds. Anyone have suggestions?????

Give the hormones time.....it takes 4-6 weeks and with the long life of premarin, there will be fluctuations.....
0.3 mg is extremely low dose.....so you might want to talk to your doctor about going higher and seeing how that is before you switch to a totally different pill or to the patch.
Once you get more estrogen in the system, you will feel better emotionally.
Trust me
Give it time....it will get better.
Take great care

Thank you so much for the reply. Ouch 4-6 weeks! Guess it's a good time to learn Yoga and Meditation.

Yes unfortunately it takes that time for the hormones to settle out in the system.....you might want to talk to your doctor about taking two a day since that is a really tiny dose....
And see how that is and see if premarin is right for you or if you need to add a progesterone/progestin or need to change everything all together.
But it takes a month for you to know for sure if its right for you or not.
So definitely talk to your doctor about trying twice a day and then seeing how that is and going from there.
Take care
