Concerns about hormone therapy

Hi everyone,
I had a TAH on Oct. 1 and so far feeling good. I am home now and have had very little pain since surgery. I was given Torodol because of an intolernance to ibuprophen. I am real tired today. I have had two abdominal surgeries in the past and neither went this well.

My dr. gave me Vivelle dot and I am a little nervous about using it. I thought I would be on the lowest dose but she gave me .05 daily. Does anyone think it is best to recover some before starting HRT? I have been in chemically induced menopause from Lupron so I have had enough of the symptoms especially vaginal dryness. Can anyone tell me if this particular HRT helped them with dryness? Getting info from my dr. is ridiculous. They can't seem to want to give an answer.

I am starting to get sore on my incision from too much walking so will have to take it easy on the walking. They tell you to walk but how do you know when too much is too much.

I hope everyone else is doing good. I am new to this site and haven't quite figured out how to navigate it very well. Appreciate any feedback.

Re: Concerns about hormone therapy

Hi (((pnativetexan)))

How soon HRT is started post op varies from doctor to doctor. Many do start their patients on it right away when both ovaries have been removed.

As far as the issue of vaginal dryness, here is what Vivelle says on their website:
If you use Vivelle-Dot only to treat dryness, itching and burning in and around your vagina, talk with your healthcare professional about whether a different treatment or medicine without estrogens might be better for you.

Of course, in your case, there could be a number of symptoms that arise.

I would encourage you to talk further with your doctor about starting HRT or waiting. There is also of course a wealth of information on the web regarding this issue. Perhaps you will be able to decide for yourself after some research.

As far as the walking, listen to your body. It sounds like it is already sending you some good messages.

I hope that others on HRT who have had a BSO will be along to share their experiences with you. All the best!
