Newbie: 9 days post hysterectomy

Hello Hystersisters,
I'm newbie. I am 43; 44 tomorrow. I am a mother of 4 children(23,21,14,and 8) I was reading information on this website prior to my website. It was very helpful to me. I was also very nervous because I saw a lot of negative postings here.
I am 9 days post-op. I had only my uterus removed. My doctor attempted laproscopic, but were unsuccessful because of the size of the fibroids. My abdomen has gone done some. But the bikini cut is swollen and sore. I drink about 50oz+ of water daily. Today I went outside in the backyard and walk. It felt good and the weather was beautiful.

Re: Newbie

Good luck with everything! Listen to your doc and your body. I stopped looking at the internet prior to my surgery because of all the negative things I have found. This site is great if you are looking into something specific. Just remember, we all heal differently, we all had this surgery for different reasons. I posted a few things after my surgery that I was experiencing and found that it was very common. But again we are all different! Best of luck! relax! and heal!

Re: Newbie

Hi and welcome to the site!! I love this site for the insight that the other ladies in similar situations can offer advice on. And yes there is negative and positive on here as with most things in life. But it goes to show the difference of how each of us heal, and deal with this entire situation. For instance you and i have a hysterectomy in common and we both have an 8 yr old. But we had different hysterectomies and i am only 27. But we can both gain insight from one another. And thats what i love about this site!

Happy birthday tomorrow!!

Re: Newbie

Hi Steph,

Happy Birthday! Glad your op went well and that you're on your feet. I'm 43 and had a tah 3/11. This website has been my rock throughout. As Bnb said, like everything else in life there are positives and negatives here too, but on the whole it's a fab website. I'm the first one in our circle to have this surgery so I was on my own for it. My husband is extremely supportive, but he really doesn't understand some of it because he's a male and he's not supposed to.. But its been wonderful to have my hyster sisters to vent (and laugh) with. They've told me that I'm not nuts because I take 3 naps a day, and that I'm not a freak because I ask questions about what shape/size poo should be 3 days post op Their support has helped me tremendously, and took away so much of the sheer terror I was feeling.

I hope you have a smooth recovery, sending you positive thoughts, Lisa xxx

Thanks Lisa for the positive thoughts and birthday wish. It is good to have your husband as support, but believe I understand where you're coming from. They are so funny sometimes.. Every time I tell him you don't understand he says, " I understand we've been married for 23 years. " lol But I am happy to have someone and some where to go to if I have questions and concerns. Or even cheer someone else up who might be having a bad day. Have a fabulous day!!!
