7 days to go, and a little....nervous!!!

I had my SAH on 6/4. I was really in a lot better shape than I ever thought I was going to be. My son spent the first 2 nights with me - but really after I got into bed I didn't need anyone there. My other son stopped by every afternoon to check on me the first week.

I have been letting them do all the things I shouldn't do like take out the trash, mow the lawn, clean the house, do the laundry. But I have been able from the first day home to shower, dress, get my food etc.

Each day I have felt progressively better. Sleeping at night is very difficult - because you can't move around or turn so you tend to cramp up. I just get up and walk around and surf the net for a while and then go back to bed.

I had surgery Wednesday afternoon and was off the morphine the next morning. Since then I haven't taken anything other than Motrin.

Everyone's body responds differently and everyone's tolerence for pain is different. I consider myself pretty lucky and I think I had prepared myself for something far worse than it turned out to be.

7 days to go, and a little....nervous!!!

I can share my experience with you, but yours may not be the same. I had a TVH on June 9 at 9 am. Surgery took a little over an hour, recovery time and then moved to my room at noonish.

By 2 pm, I was up, peeing. I had to have a nurse assist me while walking. But I didnt have a cath.. so I had to walk. By 6 pm I was peeing and walking on my own without a nurse. I was in the bathroom every hour.

My pain tolerance is high. I had a feeling like a bad cramp really low down in my tummy. My hip joints and lower back ached slightly. I was not on a pump and was ringing every 4-6 hours for my pain meds (morphine and toradol) The pain meds just took the edge off. It wasnt excruciating. But it was a 3 to a 5 on the pain scale at all times. The first day was the worst by far. After that, as long as you are a good princess... your recovery will get better every day.
