Re: Did you get a second opinion?

I didn't get a second opinion - I trusted my gyno. I had tried Implanon and Mirena with no success, just non stop bleeding.
I wasn't a candidate for ablation so hysterectomy was really the only option left. I am so glad I had the surgery, I feel so much better now. During the surgery they discovered endo lurking behind my uterus, so I am really glad that I made the right decision.

Re: Did you get a second opinion?

I did not get a second opinion to have a hysterectomy. I felt very confident that my Dr was not recommending it unnecessarily. It made sense since I don't have medical insurance to do it all and not have to deal with the possibility of the other ovary having trouble later and needing another surgery down the road.

Re: Did you get a second opinion?

I am 55 and did get a second opinion. I am glad that I had the surgery and would do it again! It was a huge relief, not only from the pain but from the mental angst as well. My doc was a lovely woman who was totally empathetic. If there is ANY way to have a female GYN ~ Do it!

Re: Did you get a second opinion?

Yes, I did get a second opinon and it was the same as the first. I really think 2 or 3 opinions are needed if you can get them.

Re: Did you get a second opinion?

I went to several doctors for a second, third, etc. opinion. The first doctor did not want to do the surgery because of my history of multiple pulmonary embolisms. After seeing the second doctor and agreeing to do a LAH/BSO, I felt my bladder "drop" and this doctor would not even listen. So, cancelled that one and went to another to confirm that I really needed the surgery. Then, went to another who sent me on a round of visiting other doctors to check on the other conditions that I had. This made me more comfortable too, because I did not feel that we were rushing into surgery without verifying everything. After confirming with them that I was ok for surgery and I did indeed have a cystocele, I finally had the surgery which included fixing the cystocele.

Did you get a second opinion?

In a way I did, just not medically. The second opinion was my mom. My uterus was enlarged to about 4 month pregnant size. Was wondering why my pants weren't fitting. Also it grew larger in the 4 week period between appointment and surgery.

Re: Did you get a second opinion?

I did not get a second opinion as I had waited so long to go to the doctor this time in the first place. I had been told over 25 years ago to go back every six months and did not do so. I had heard so many good things about my doctor before I went to her and really felt confident with her. I had made up my mind before going to the doctor that I would have a hysterectomy if it was an option. I was just ready for it and had prayed over it many times. I knew it was right in my own heart. I was sick of the problems I was having and happy to be rid of them.

Re: Did you get a second opinion?

My general physician referred me to her OB/GYN and that was good enough for me. I had been bleeding for 3 month and didn't have the strength or the time to consider a 2nd opinion. TAH one year and 7 days ago and thanks to this wonderful website, I never felt alone.

Re: Did you get a second opinion?

No I didnt get a 2nd opinion either I am 47 and had enough of painful heavy, clotting periods every 28 days. Also was sick of always organising things around that time of the month and when I did leave the house had to cart like a "nappy bag"with me for the just incase I needed to change etc..
