Ouch! Felt something "give"

I am 5.5 weeks past a vertical cut TAH/BSO.

I still have pain on the bottom my incision, and also some internally, in my lower abdomen and "here and there." I still have less stamina than usual. This is disappointing, because I thought I'd be "all better" by 6 weeks.

Tonight, DH got a severe cramp in his leg. He started yelling "Ow!" loudly. He got up from his easy chair, and tried to get to bed. He couldn't put the cramped leg on the floor.

I said, "Here, lean on me." So I put my shoulder under his armpit. (He is 6'2" tall.) He leaned on me, and hopped his way to the bedroom with my support.

When he leaned on me, I felt something "give" in my lower abdomen. I don't think anything tore, because it isn't sensitive when I press against it. But it was an "owie," and I hope there won't be a problem as a result.

Funny thing about pain, men, and drama. Wonder how they would react if they had to put up with what WE women put up with?

Incision pain at 5.5 weeks

The lower part of my vertical incision is still painful to touch, at 5.5 weeks. It is dark red, about 1/8" wide. The upper part is well-healed and pale.

Does anyone else have an incision that is still painful at 5.5 weeks?

Is the lower part of the incision inflammed? If it is showing any signs of irritation then I would call my doc or go to the ER. I hope you and dh get to feeling better soon.

Ouch! Felt something "give"

Hi, I too had a vertical incision and the bottom part remained tender for a few months. It did look healed (although was wider and more purple than higher up) I am left however with two little lumps like peas underneath the scar there, I have put all of it down to the fact that the day after the surgery I leaked some blood through the scar there and they had to press down hard to ensure it was only a surface bleed and not from inside. I would think as long as you have no seepage or inflammation, fever etc;that it will like mine eventually resolve itself. I'm very jealous that the rest of your scar is pale, I still have a patchy one with a few invisible bits here and there!

Vertical incision...mine...is still tender to touch most days at 9 months. Please try not to do something so weightbearing until you are fully healed, though I understand it was a natural enough move.

Pink I am 5 weeks tomorrow with a vertical incision as well. The bottom is discolored and has rougher texture of skin on it(maybe scabby). I have a lump at the end of the incision. I also had leakage from that area. My doctor said that it is fine just healing slower than the rest but it did close up. I took a look at it with a mirror and it looks gross. I have pain in the bottom part too and tenderness. Anyhoo does it have to do with gravity or maybe because of the overlapped tummy or leakage?

I think the bottom part of the incision gets more pressure from the weight of the tummy. Also, it folds when I sit down, which is many times per day.

I think it's like what happens when I get a perforated piece of paper -- if it doesn't tear along the perforations right away, I fold it back and forth to weaken it. Unfortunately, that's what is happening to the tissues of the wound.

This spot has given me more trouble and pain than the rest of the incision, from the beginning.

It's somewhat reassuring to know that others experience the same.

I'm a little overweight (151 lbs, 5'4" tall), but not obese. I asked the Physician's Assistant, Emily, what obese women do with the weight of their abdomen on the incision. She said that sometimes the stitches tear right through the skin, after the operation, from the weight, and they have to be restitched in the surgeon's office.

There is no sign of infection or tearing. Thanks for your good wishes :-).
