Re: Help! Yoga fanatic and Dr. doesn't "get" it.

Here's just an update on my yoga experience today:

Did my first 90 min class this afternoon, pre-surgery practiced hot flow yoga 4-6 times a week. Only poses I omitted were headstands, crow, warrior 3. For anyone going back to class I'd reccommend shortening your stance for warrior poses & wide leg. I modified balance postures & bridges to beginner level & just hit mountain pose if I needed a quick break or couldn't hold a pose for full time. Also at the beginning of class, I modified flows to be on my knees, but did full planks/ vinyasa by the mid-end of class

I'm just over 5 weeks & just got cleared this morning. Little swelly belly, but not too bad. Muscle memory is a beautiful thing ladies.

Good luck

Namaste

Will do! So far tonight, my right side (lower abs) are tight, I have two close DaVinci incisions on that side. Swelly has gone down, but I've been relaxing tonight with the fam with my feet up when I can. Another modification I forgot to mention was for boat & upward dog...not pushing through the pose like normal...but just going to a comfortable spot & stopping :-) will post tomorrow if it was too much...heck knows our bodies WILL let us know

Jane - I feel great. Little stiffness in my lower back & shoulders from "protecting" core muscles...but I really feel great...mentally feel more like myself...hitting the mat at 4pm class today, won't be as scared this time :-)

Re: Help! Yoga fanatic and Dr. doesn't "get" it.

Just an update ladies, I've been back at my normal classes for about a week & today I did not need to modify, did headstands & all. I chickened out dropping into wheel today, but I think it's more mental than physical...will cheat at home on the wall tomorrow before class. I'm 6 weeks post op today. Happy healing to all & happy holidays!

Namaste :-)
