Sleepless nights
After an excrutiating day yesterday when the doctor confirmed I will need a hysterectomy due to atypical hyperplasia & large fibroids, I called & spoke with an OB/GYN nurse on a help line & she pretty much ended up confirming what my doctor had said. She said that with hyperlasia it is not a matter of will it turn into cancer, but when will it turn into cancer -- & she said it will usually turn into cancer within 6 months. Since we don't know how long I've had it, I then called my doctor's office & he stands firm by his diagnosis & wants to schedule for April 12th (already!) However, throughout this ordeal I've been having sleepless nights. I wake up & roll over & muddle it all in my mind until I sleep a bit again (dreamt the other night my doctor came to my office & his kids climbed through my window -- his son's name was "Sheldon" & he was upset because everyone called him "Shelly"--now, none of this is true, it was just in my dream -- prior to that I kept dreaming I was a long way from home & had to walk or run home), anyway, I get up exhausted & just can't seem to sleep, & when I do wake up, I'm all weepy too. I wake up in a cold sweat & throw the covers off, then I get cold & pull them back on -- my covers are twisted like a rope in the morning. Could this be hot flashes? I don't get this during the day. I'm just so tired & so exhausted. Any suggestions on how to get & stay asleep & get some rest?

Sleepless nights
It's no wonder you are having trouble sleeping. You've got a lot on your mind. That is just so much new information to try and process so quickly.
The flashes could be hot flashes. Mine were coming just at night sometimes.
I used Tylenol PM to help sleep for the past few years. It works well for me. But check with your doctor. You don't want to introduce anything new just before surgery unless they know about it. Your doctor may want to prescribe something also.
Good luck and thanks for posting.

Sleepless nights
Wow, you sure got a quick date for your surgery! At least you won't have to play the waiting game for long! It sure has been a bear for me.
In reference to your quote:
"I wake up in a cold sweat & throw the covers off, then I get cold & pull them back on..."
I am almost like that only I wake up burning up with sweat beading all over my face, pjs clinging to my body, throw the covers off onto my hubby and turn on the A/C and the fan. Then I'll wake up freezing, turn the AC and fan off and grab back my covers. Poor hubby!
And all through out the day I get hot and just break out in a sweat for no known reason. I can just be sitting at the computer and it happens.
So if this is hot flashes, I'd too would like to know so I can ask at my pre-op on Thursday.
When I find it hard to sleep because my mind is in overdrive, first I turn whatever is on my mind over to the Lord. Then I take deep slow breaths and let them out very slowly. After doing this several times, I'm usually out.
Hope this helps.
