keep cervix or not?

I am having a laproscopic hyster 6/04.....I have not yet talked w/my Dr. on this so I do not know her medical opinion. But, I was wondering how anyone felt about the option to keep vs. remove the cervix? Thanks so much for your input!-tgy

keep cervix or not?

I didn't request either way....I left that up to my Dr but he did say that he probably would leave it if everything looked okay. His explanation to me was that the cervix gives bladder support. I also read that the blood supply to the bladder is better if the cervix is left. The bladder stays more pliable as you age....so less problems in the future. They do so many vaginal hysts and in those cases I think they take the cervix....if this is such a popular method and the cervix is that important then why do they opt for that? And most of the time the vaginal hysts are done on the ones that are very young. I don't know whether they think the incision is more important not to have instead of worrying about bladder problems later or what. I personally, worry more about being able to function normally as I age. My DD has been plagued for yrs with bladder infections that have left her with some bladder control problems. We have spent a lot of time at Drs trying to fix this....the way kids pick at each other these days, she was having a hard time dealing with this. Bladder control problems are not fun. I would definately discuss that with my Dr.
