post op socks

I am almost three weeks post op and I still have to wear those silly socks we wore for surgery.

I haven't noticed any of the US sisters mention this so I wondered if it was a UK thing.

When I was discharged from castle they said I would have to wear them for SIX weeks!!!!
I don't know how much they help cos my feet are always freezing, and, because I associate them with the castle, they make me feel worse I think lol

Anyway just thought I would share this with everyone and see what other sisters thoughts are.

Hugs to all

Interesting...

If you are talking about the compression hose, mine came off on day 2 after I was up and walking around. No one ever said I had to put them on again...so I haven't!

I was under the impression they were used for circulation and once a body was up and moving on their own, the socks weren't necessary.

Sorry you have to wear a constant reminder of the castle.
Hope the next few weeks pass quickly.

I wore mine for 24 hours; as soon as I was up and about, off they came. The nurse told me that since I would be taking the hose home with me that they are great to use as long underwear because they're very warm. Maybe so, but I have no desire to wiggle back into those things!

Hi fellow sister from the UK.
I had them in the hospital (5 days) and took them off when I came home. I thought they were to help prevent thrombosis and needed when you are not moving around much.
Poor you they are so uncomfortable mine were full length and kept rolling over at the top.
I kept them for long haul flights. Have family in NZ we hope to see again next year. They really stop the swollen feet.
Hope you are recovering well
Take care

Hi Lee, I'm in the UK too. I had to wear my socks for the 5 days I was in the castle. Boy - Was I glad to get them off ! We were having a heatwave at the time, and I constantly felt like ripping them off ! Have you been given any particular reason why you still have to wear them?

To all.
