More frequent periods?

I am presently suspected of having a fibroid but have just had a biopsy and am awaiting my ultrasound.

What finally brought me to the ob/gyn after a lot of different complaints (mostly anemia and GI stuff that no one narrowed to gynecological stuff) was that my periods were getting increasingly heavy and coming more and more frequently, and in one case (two cycles before this one) a period took a full two weeks to finally taper off. They're still very regular, however, in when they arrive (about every 16-18 days).

Did anyone have more frequent periods as part of your symptoms? What did you turn out to have?

Re: More frequent periods?

In january I had THE worst period of my life. I bled for 1 month straight and passed huge clots, one that looked like a small jelly fish. YUCK! I have been on bc pills 15 years without a break and my Dr. just wanted to tinker with them. I was worried because my mom had uterine cancer so I changed Dr's. In the few months it took to see my new one I had irregular periods, heavy bleeding, break through spotting, etc. My new doctor saw several fibroids, 2 side by side that were 3 cm each and was pretty sure that was the problem. He wanted to make sure so he did a d and c with hysterscopy. He was making sure there was no cancer. Then he wanted to wait 3 months (this was the day after Mothers Day) to see if things changed and to do a colposcopy. Just again to make sure there was no cancer. He is EXTREMELY thorough, almost to a fault.

So May, June and July's periods were long, heavy and with clotting. I had to take and entire bag on vacation filled with different sizes of pads and tampons because I wasn't sure how long I would bleed or how heavy. Ridiculous. So last Thursday I went in for my regular pap smear, and colposcopy. He said every thing looked real good on the cervix, nothing looked like cancer. I told him about vacation and we all agreed it was time to do something. So he put forth options of playing with my bc pills. Nope, I'm tired of the hormones and want to see what my real ones feel like again. He offered UFE but explained the fibroids could just regrow, pretty quickly. I had already decided that wasn't for me because of how many fibroids I have and where they are located. He offered ablation but none of us liked that idea, so he, my husband and I agreed on the hysterectomy. He will take everything except the ovaries. Even the tubes. I wanted him to take the ovaries because my mom also had ovarian cancer and he said he understood my fears but much rather leave them if nothing is wrong with them because I am "only" 40. I lost sleep over that decision I have always been so afraid of ovarian cancer. But after lots of thinking, researching, long discussions with my husband and mother, (even she wants me to keep them) I decided he was right. So I'll keep them. Something may happen in the future that makes me wish I had removed them, but I can only decide based on the here and now and hope for the best.

I really apologize this is so long, but I know its a hard decision to make and just wanted you to know a little about my journey to wear I am. I am happy with mine and honestly can't wait for the pain and bleeding to be gone. Hope it helps you a little.

Re: More frequent periods?

Yes, I had the normal one and then a mini one in the middle for the last few months, along with reflux, hip bursitis, menorrhagia and the bowel and bladder problems. Did I mention the pain? I get cramps from my head, to my back, stomach and legs to the backs of my ankles! There isn't a Part that doesn't hurt most of the time, and I take iron tablets but am still only just not anaemic.
Seems like these suckers know how to cause complications, so I wouldn't be surprised at your symptoms.
