My hysterectomy is scheduled for 2 weeks from today.

In less than 72 hours I will officially be married. I am super excited and nervous all at the same time. My mind has been focusing on the wedding. My hysterectomy was scheduled for the 17th, but has been re-scheduled for the 25th. I will be my doctor's first patient that he is doing robotic surgery on. The doctor will be removing both of my ovaries. I am 29 years old. My fiancé, who will be husband at the time of surgery, will be off of work until Saturday evening. I know everyone is different, but if my surgery is Tuesday morning, will I be okay home alone Saturday/Sunday/Monday evening/night? I tend to worry a lot and I like to have a plan. I do not really have any family close by that can help me. What kind of plans do you have for when you get home from surgery?

Re: My hysterectomy is scheduled for 2 weeks from today.

Congratulations on your wedding! Focus on your wedding and your happy day! Before you know it, your surgery will be over. It's hard not to worry, but it is such a relief afterwards to have the surgery done! My surgery was Friday afternoon, I spent one night in the hospital, and I was up and ready to go at 6:00 a.m. Saturday morning. Even though I didn't get any rest Friday night! My husband was home with me Sat., Sun., and Mon. He went back to work on Tues. and I was fine. In all honesty, the only problem that I ever had was putting my socks on! I couldn't wait to take my shower on Sunday and other than the abdominal pain, I was able to take care of myself. Now, you don't want to overdo and you definitely want to let someone else take care of cleaning, cooking, etc....Just get yourself ready to rest. Stock up on your favorite drinks, books, movies, etc...It gets quite boring not being able to do anything. I am 11 days post op and I'm feeling really good. I have 4 recommendations for you: Gas Ex, Dulcolax or Miralax, comfy sweatpants, and an abdominal binder to help support your belly. You can get one at Walgreens or CVS.

If you have friends or co-workers, ask them to check in with you. Honestly, I feel like I had way too much company. I just wanted to be left alone. I did appreciate the visits and the food, but you don't want to feel like you need to entertain anyone when you need to rest.

If you have any questions at all, please let me know. The last couple of weeks are the toughest emotionally/mentally.

Best wishes on your wedding and your surgery!

Re: My hysterectomy is scheduled for 2 weeks from today.

Congratulations on your wedding!

As far as your question of being alone.... you should be okay. I had a TAH BSO, and came home from the hospital on Friday. DH was home with me that day through Sunday. After that, he went to work and I was home alone all day. I did fine. I kept meals - breakfast and lunch - very simple (oatmeal, yogurt, frozen lunches in the microwave). I did things VERY SLOWLY and rested much. Had a pile of movies and light reading in my recovery corner. DH came home for dinner and dealt with necessities....

If you want, you can have a neighbor call you to see if you are okay. I found people are more than willing to help out.

Re: My hysterectomy is scheduled for 2 weeks from today.

I had LSH on a Wednesday, home from hospital on Thursday DH gone at work Friday but was home for the weekend. I had a neighbor to call and my Aunt was to come sit with me but I wound up asking her to come another day. I thought I'd be scared to be alone but mostly just sleep. Like others liked the peace and quiet. Just learn the tricks for getting in/out of bed you'll be fine. DH tucked in sheets/blanket super tight at the bottom. I'd roll over, prop up on my arm, then use blankets to pull myself the rest of the way up. Ask the nurses to show you because you can hurt yourself if done wrong. Sounds dumb practice a few times before surgery!
