How long in the hospital??

Hi friends,
I am going to have a TAVH along with a bladder and bowel repair and tie up, one ovary out, and maybe both.
How long in your opinions will I be in the hospital, and when will I really feel well enough to go back to work?
I am having the surgery done on the 26th.....13 days from today, but who's counting?
I love this board, and thank you all for the support and help you give everyone.

How long in the hospital??

Every Dr and hospital is so different. You should really call your Dr's office to ask.

I had the TVH and A & P Repairs - went in on Friday morning - home on Monday. Exactly as planned. I've heard others' stays were much shorter and other the same as mine.

I love this site too - visit it often - everyone was a huge support to me during recovery (I lurked pre-op and didn't join until after surgery - stupid stupid me)

I could have gone back to work at 8 weeks probably - but I was lucky and didn't have to until 12. By then, it was business as usual - I felt great.

5 months out - all's well and I'm happy to have had it done.

Good luck!

How long in the hospital??

Thank you for your help! I have already called my dr. twice, and the nurse was so kind to call me back. I will probably have to go back to work at 5 weeks. I teach school, and the dr. assured me all would be well.

I'm glad you did so well, and I'm sure the 12 weeks off was nice! Did you keep your ovaries? I might get to keep one.

How long in the hospital??

My hysterectomy was done because everything was proplapsed - I didn't have any ovarian problems or bleeding issues etc. I kept both ovaries and hormonally (sp?) all is well. I actually still get PMS and some symptoms but not every month.

To get 12 weeks, I used all my sick time and scheduled my surgery toward the end of the school year.

If you have to go back at 5 weeks, try not to schedule any extra activities after school at first - you'll probably be tired just getting back into routine. Any way you can start back 1/2 days for the first few days to ease back into it? Just something to think about.

In the meantime, stock up on reading materials, movies, healthy snacks etc. so you can relax and take care of yourself afterwards.
