Sodium levels, catheter, thyroid, make it stop!
I had a radical hysterectomy due to Stage 1 cervical cancer using Da Vinci last Monday and I am feeling pretty much as I expected, a little pain, weakness and tired, but considering, not too bad. They sent me home with a catheter...has anyone else had this happen? I have not seen it in posts. Also they are wanting me to come back in for blood tests as my sodium levels dropped post op and they are worried about an adrenal issue. In addition the petscan showed nodules on my thyroid so they want to do a biopsy. I have had Hoshimotos thyroiditis for ten years but I didn't know anything about this. I was a healthy, no symptoms woman just four months ago...I feel like I woke up in someone else's life!!!!! I am now waiting for pathology results, waiting to get the catheter out, waiting to feel good enough to have a thyroid biopsy (don't worry miss-if you need surgery you will only be off work two weeks--augh!!!!!)

First of all...
{{{HUGS}}} Sister. That is a plate full.
I came home with a cathater that became my "pet" as I called it. I had mine for a total of 3 weeks. The bladder gets very angry being jossled around after being put to sleep during surgery. I have thyroid issues, but haven't needed a biopsy yet. Hopefully your sodium levels just went a little wacky after surgery. You have had a rough few months, but hang tight sister. Good news is the cervical cancer is gone now, and all things happen for a reason.
We are here for you Sister.
Healing Hugs and Well Wishes being channeled your direction.

Re: Sodium levels, catheter, thyroid, make it stop!
I had a thyroid biopsy just under a couple weeks ago. It doesn't hurt, but it is icky. That's the best word I have for it. I haven't yet had thyroid hormone issues, but I have a nodule. As for sodium issues, on Friday, suddenly my blood pressure when really high, and I found out I have low potassium issues likely cause by kidneys dumping my potassium due to an adrenal problem. Apparently there is a balance between sodium and potassium that must be maintained but can certainly get out of kilter for several reasons. I'm following up with my regular GP tomorrow. I'm sorry all of this is happening to you so soon after surgery. Just wanted you to know you aren't alone.

Re: Sodium levels, catheter, thyroid, make it stop!
Wow thank you ladies!! I did see my endocrinologist today and the sodium issue is probably fine, and he did assure me that even though I do have to do the biopsy that thyroid cancer is very rare. But it is weirdly better knowing you guys have dealt with it too. I Like the little pet idea for the catheter....maybe I'll name it!! I did talk my doctor into taking it out after two weeks instead of three...hope my bladder performs well without it. Thanks again for the kind words and hugs!!
