Vegetarians in the Castle?

I am scheduled for surgery on October 15th and am wondering about food in hospital. I am a strict vegetarian/sometimes vegan and very committed to eating organic produce. I assume I won't be very hungry the first day but Dr says will there four days. Will I be able to bring meals into the hospital?

Vegetarians in the Castle?

I am not strickly vegaterian but I registered as one since I eat very little meat and was afraid of what I would get. I don't think they knew what to do with me. The meals were terrible with toasted cheese the main stay. One suppper was two peach halfs and some cottage. I wish had felt better and written down what they served. It would make quite a re ad now. I am sure you will be able to eat from home after you are able to eat solid food.

I also am a vegetarian, eat mostly organic foods, very little sugar, salt or refined carbs - very healthy diet and had quite a few problems with the food in the hospital. All they consider is "NO MEAT" and I got jello, chicken broth (I couldn't believe they didn't have veg. broth) I had a grilled cheese that was on that big texas toast bread...all white refined flour...tons of margarine...plastic cheese...super salty.

I did have one "soft diet" meal that was ok, but on a whole the food was awful. I was only there 2 days otherwise I would have had my hubby bring something.

As long as it falls in line with they type of diet the Dr. has you on it should be ok to have someone bring you food, just check with your Dr. If you don't eat dairy or eggs you will probably have a tough time.

I am not a vegetarian, but my hospital had quite an extensive menu. They had fruit plates and vegetable plates. You could choose from tons of options. Unfortunately for me, I was on the liquid diet for 3 1/2 days. Maybe you could call the castle and ask what their options are.

You can ask the hospital what they can accomodate for you. If it were me, I'd bring my own stuff, most hospital floors have a micro and frig they will let you use and put labeled food in ......if you choose to bring your own stuff.

I didn't eat much anyway...so for me jello and toast was about all I wanted.
