cone biopsy tomorrow

Tomorrow I go for the cone biopsy. Its supposed to remove a rather large area in the canal, due to recurrent moderate dysplasia. (My paps have been normal, but a colposcopy showed recurrence by chance). The LEEP was no problem other than swelling.

For anyone who has gone through the cone, how does it compare for recovery? My husband is gone for the weekend and I have 2 kids - I am worried about the stitches thing!

Thanks for your replies. They help immensely!!!! Friends and family can't understand. Almost certain to go to hysterectomy after this.

Best wishes to all princesses going through difficult times.

cone biopsy tomorrow

I had a Leep with a cone biopsy back in June, and honestly, I think I would have been okay if my husband wasn't there. Of course, I was under conscience sedation, so someone NEEDED to drive me home. Other than that, I just took it easy for the next day and went to work after two days. How old are your children? Mine were 7, 6 and 4 at the time and they were more than able to fend for themselves for a little while.

BTW, the primary reason for my hysterectomy is recurrent severe dysplasia/CIS. I did not have clear margins with my cone, nor with the follow-up colposcopy three months later. I also have alot of other stuff going on gynologically that made my decision a LITTLE easier.

Good Luck tomorrow. I hope they get clear margins! Even if they don't show clear margins immediately, my gyn/onc mentioned that in 70% of cases with unclear margins, after the procedure, the dysplasia will disappear. Also, if you are not wanting a hysterectomy, there are several options such as repeat LEEPs and cones that can still be used successfully.
