What else helps itching besides Benadryl??

I'm 3 weeks post-op, and the itching from my incision is driving me ABSOLUTELY.INSANE!!!!! Of course, the most I try to rub it a bit to relieve some the itching, the more it begins hurting.

I've heard that Benadryl helps to relieve the itching, but I don't do very well with Benadryl. It knocks me out and makes me very, very shaky/jittery. I need something that I can take or use during the day, as that's when the worst of my itching takes place.

Anyone have any suggestions??? I'm desperate!!

Thanks in advance!

Yah call the doc!! There are also some sprays that you may be able to use on the incison, that help itching. That way you wouldn't have to touch it or get a larg amount of cream globbed up. Definitely don't wing it and choose it yourself though, we don't know the details of your specific situation or meds, only your doc does. Good luck and hope you are itch free soon!

What else helps itching besides Benadryl??

i don't like benadryl pills either - the liquid benadryl worked wonders for me! I was about to go insane also!!! I feel for ya! I ended up having a allergic reaction and they had to put me on steriods and an antibiotic - but they didn't help the itch at 1st. The only thing that kept me from hurting someone was the liquid benadryl and ice pack. Good luck!

Thank you all SO much for the tips, ladies.

Straitgurl71 - I never even thought about trying the liquid Benadryl. I'll definitely try that before anything else.

And Calamyne lotion!!! I KNEW I was forgetting something! I need to dig mine out....

Thanks again, everyone!

also some cortisone cream, but ask your doc before putting anything on your incisions.
