LIW tips & hints
Hi, just got home from the castle Sat. There's so much good info on these boards...here's my experience.
What I'd do differently/what worked great
--should've brought ear plugs & eye mask
--chapstick was a godsend!
--glad I brought my own jammies, my room was freezin'
--do not eat anything a well meaning visitor/family member gives you. this means cough drops, gum, etc. please okay it with the nurse.
--having family helpers in my room as soon as I got in it was a blessing. I was getting out of bed every 10 minutes to pee, there's no way the nurse or nurse's assistant could've helped me every time.
--the pre-op meeting and all reading material was adament about no jewelry not even wedding ring, I wanted to keep it on until last moment, pre-op nurse said "no problem" and taped it.
--wish I would've brought a little stuffed animal or something
What I should've bought before so I didn't have to get someone go get it as soon as I got home:
--little travel packs of kleenex
--gas X
--tucks
--cold stuff; I went in healthy and came home with a head cold
Also, the TP in my castle bathroom was in a terrible location to reach! It was to the left of the commode way behind it. I caught on and ripped off a hunk before sitting.
good luck to all the LIW

Good tips, Doreen. Chapstick is a must, I agree.
Most hospitals will allow a family member or close friend to stay with you in your room overnight. They actually welcome the help the extra person can give.
I hope that you're beginning to feel better each day.

Glad to see you made it in and out okay.
I like the TP part. Something you NEVER think of until it's too late and out of reach!
