Experience with vaginal cuff?
Hi all. Not sure if I am feeling better knowing or if it was better not knowing. MAYBE. I will be able to postpone since cramping finally stopped from ea a mo th ago. Still bleeding (bright red) but cramping has abated. Anyway. I was reading about having the cervix taken as well and reading absolute horror stories about the vaginal cuff and bowel prolapse and painful sex. This TERRIFIES me. I certainly don't want to have any further surgeries after this. And the sheer fact of knowing it is likely is paralyzingly horrific. I love sex with my hubby and reading that if I have a torn cuff or a cuff that doesn't heal right and never having sex again is not a warm and fuzzy. Luckily for me I just have menstral issues. Doc said he would take cervix since I had pre cervical abnormal cells 20 years ago which I had surgery and have been clean since. My ea post op showed the lining is very thick and have blood between the wall and the scarring. But if cramping has abated maybe I don't have to have hysterectomy? My hubby says to get second opinion but I'm just tired o being poked and prodded and whatnot. Does anyone have experience with sex/prolapse after davinci and vaginal cuff? Any experience would be knowledgeable both good and bad.

Re: Experience with vaginal cuff?
If you are unsure, get a second opinion. Once you have the surgery, it is permanent and you can't go back.
Having your cervix removed is a personal choice for most, unless there's a history of cancer or evidence of it. So having yours removed may not be a choice. A second opinion may not be a bad thing and it may ease your mind some
I had my uterus, cervix and part of my tubes removed and kept my ovaries I don't regret it one bit. As far as I know my vaginal cuff has healed well. At 4 weeks all of my sutures had dissolved. I am 5 montths post op now. I am doing great and my quality of life had improved tremendously. As with anything you will hear good stories and bad ones but you have to do what's best for you.
Sex after surgery is a major concern for all of us. And yes there are women who experience sexual disfunction, but there are just ad many at the other end of the spectrum that have a better sex life. A lot have increased libido. My libido has increased tremendously. Sex doesn't hurt, I don't bleed or have vaginal dryness. My orgasms good also. So again just as you'll hear bad stories, you'll find many good ones to.
You'll find excellent support here and it's good to know that you are not alone and that so many are willing to share to help you in your decision making.
You have to make the best decision for you.
Lots of ((HUGS)) to you

Re: Experience with vaginal cuff?
I agree with Wandatd to get a 2nd opinion if you are in any doubt about actually needing this surgery. The recovery is a journey in itself and yes there are some women who have sexual issues. after the surgery. This along with any surgery has risks involved. I had my uterus and cervix removed. I have not had any sexual or bathroom issues and I am 5 months post op. In fact for me my sex life is better than it was before since I had pain with intercourse before. I think the key is for each woman is to wait until her body is healed before engaging in intercourse. For some women it is 6 wks and for some it is well past that. I think if you are willing to listen to your body and ensure it is healed before engaging in intercourse, was the key for me. I was cleared at 6 wks post op, but everything was really sore on the inside so I chose not to do it. My husband was just as scared as I was and we got through that together. I checked my vaginal cuff by inserting a finger inside and when my cervix no longer felt "sore" we went for it.
I was one who waited until 10 1/2 wks po. Not only was it good but it was actually Great!!! Things were a little tight at first I guess from non use, but still No Pain!! The big "O" was a big "O" and felt really good. I kept waiting for cramping to come, nothing. When I went to the bathroom, nothing. Just good old plain sex like before the fibroid issues. So listen to your body not to some random date that the dr gives to everyone. That was the key for me and I'm completely satisfied with my new found sex life. I hope that helps!

Re: Experience with vaginal cuff?
I had a Davinci almost 4 years ago and have not had a problem with the vaginal cuff. No pain during sex either. I'm 47. Everyone is an individual though. Speak with your physician about the pros and cons. For me, it was the best thing I ever did! I even went home the same day.
