Vision changes 2 days post op hysterectomy

Good morning! I'm 2 days post op tlvh. The pain is pretty manageable most of the time, and I'm able to go walking short distances, but do have difficulty with simple position changes, which I know will get better over the next week or so. One odd symptom I'm experiencing is blurred vision, which started immediately after I woke up, post-op. I've been on pain medications for a lengthy period prior to this surgery and have never had any vision changes taking narcotic medications or even during past surgeries. My surgeon is aware of the incident, and the plan is to wait 1-2 weeks and see if the blurred vision continues. Has anyone else experienced this post-op?

Re: Vision changes

Just another quick note, I did remove the scopolamine patch yesterday morning so I don't think that' is what is causing the problem. I also still have my ovaries, but perhaps they've shut down slightly due to the trauma of surgery. Luckily, the vision changes aren't getting worse, so hopefully it will just need some time.

Re: Vision changes 2 days post op hysterectomy

My vision took a while to get back to normal after removing the nausea patch. It was a gradual improvement.

Re: Vision changes 2 days post op hysterectomy

It could possibly be a side effect from the anesthesia too.

I had that from the nausea patch as it dilates one of both pupils. Totally went away when it was off. Hope that helps!

Re: Vision changes 2 days post op hysterectomy

Thanks guys. I've had a number of procedures before and never had a reaction quite like this. It's just thrown me for a bit of a loop, as I wasn't expecting my biggest concern coming out of surgery to be blurred vision! It's definitely helpful to know some others who've had similar experiences. Thanks again

Re: Vision changes 2 days post op hysterectomy

I would have FREAKED out if the anesthesiologist didn't warn me ahead of time.

Re: Vision changes 2 days post op hysterectomy

I had the exact same thing from the second I woke up from surgery. I put the patch on at about 11:30 am and took it off at 11:30 PM because I could no longer even see the TV or my phone.

I am at week 4 now and things are finally starting to get better. I'm sure you will be faster, but in case you take a while like me, try not to worry too much. If you look up askapatient about side effects of the patch, often blurry vision takes quite a while to subside.

Re: Vision changes 2 days post op hysterectomy

I seem to be slowly regaining control of my vision. I still have intermittent blurriness, but it is happening a little less frequently. My husband is stationed overseas and leaves to go back in 8 days, so I need it mostly better by then. Thank you all again!

Re: Vision changes 2 days post op hysterectomy

Pain meds can cause this, even if you haven't experienced in the past. Being only a few days post op everything from meds to fatigue can be causing it.
