Incision draining and menopausal yukkies

Hi Sisters!
I'm 5 weeks out of surgery from my tah-bso and my horizontal incision is draining. Has anyone had this happen to them? I had staples instead of stitches, and I think I showered too long my first day home from the hospital, and reopened my incision a little while the staples were still in.

I've been back and forth to the ob-gyn clinic for the past 4 weeks for follow-up, and the Dr. has re-opened the wound the last 3 visits to allow for more draining (oww). There's very little pain because my stomach is still partially numb. Is that normal?
I've been given antibiotics and another follow-up appointment! (I dont like going to the clinic.)

I dont want to whine, but I have hot flashes, night sweats, and "brain freezes" that are beginning to get on my nerves. I dont want hrt, so I'd really appreciate any suggestions to help remedy these menopausal yukkies.
Please help!

Incision draining and menopausal yukkies

Hi Mizme,

I had my surgery back in Nov. My incision is still partically opened. I am being treated at the hosptial's Wound Care Center. After being told that I have to heal from the inside out, I kept saying something is wrong. Then I was told the usual excuse that I am fat, and that is why I'm not healing. Sheesh. I think that is the only excuse when dr's don't know what to do or what something is.

I have a dr that told me that I have a wound that is severely infected, and is still draining. I too had staples, but found out the hard way I was severely allergic to the staples, and the dressing and adhesive used to hold the dressing on my stomach. It was one thing after another.

After everything I have been through, 4 of my 6 wounds are now healed - yay! I have 2 very stubborn wound that are open, but these are the worst of them all. I clean my wounds with sterilized water, and use an antibiotic paste that the Wound Care dr gave me, on the wounds. I cover them with gauze, and keep the wounds dry at all times. So far, everything is coming together nicely.

I am so ready for this to be overwith once and for all. It has been such a long haul, but so worth it. For once in my life I am living pain free.

We have our Resources library that has some information under the No-Hormone section, and a No-Hormone Desert Oasis forum where you can post questions concerning no hrt.

I hope you get something to help you feel better soon.

Lovin my Sisters!

Hi Sisters!

Thank you Roseptl for knowing exactly what I'm going through with this incision/wound on my "stomach roll", infection and all!. You've given me hope that this indeed will get better! I feel so Blessed to have you ladies helping me through this recovery. My Dh has reminded me of a past surgery I had on both feet in Sept. and Oct. of 1981, where my podiatrist told me "you'll feel good as new in 6-8 weeks" and it actually took 7 months! I really thought I'd never walk again. SuzyQ23, I'm headed directly to our Resource library as soon as I finish this post! SuzyQ23 and LuvMyAbs, thank you both for the HUGS. I needed them! I want to love my abs soon.

Love and laughter ladies!

Incision draining and menopausal yukkies

Mizme,
While I didn't have problems with my incision after my hysterectomy, I did after a laprodectomy (sp?) I had before the hyst. My incision continued to ooze for several weeks. My doc even strapped a kotex across my belly once to catch all the blood and drainage. I was finally sent to a wound specialist, who reopened the incision, popped some hematomas and cleaned and packed it. I had to see him daily for a week, and than he showed me how to take care of it at home.

I too had to heal from the inside/out. I was certain that the darn thing was never going to close and heal. I did follow my doctor's instructions to the tee and sure enough it did heal up and close on its own. It did take some time. I don't recall exactly, but I know it was at least 6 weeks, if not longer.

Best wishes to you. I hope you feel better soon and that your incision will be better soon.
