Bleeding/ Hematoma

I had a total laparoscopic hysterectomy 22 days ago. Recovery has been slow. About 10 days ago doctor told me CT showed build up of blood behind my bladder, a hematoma. I continue to bleed. Doctor told me its the hematoma but I worry because its bright red and seems fresh like a period. I'm having more bleeding now then before with moderate pain. The doctor gave me antibiotics for 7 days to avoid infection. My last day of taking antibiotics was Thursday. I'm worried that the bleeding is not the hematoma. Is anyone else experiencing this or have/ had a hematoma after surgery? I would appreciate any feedback! Thank you

Re: Bleeding/ Hematoma

I ended up in the ER at 2 weeks post op due to very heavy bleeding, I was soaking a pad in 30 mins. They did a vaginal u/s and said I had fluid build up in the cuff along with a hematoma. I bled till about the 3 and 1/2 week mark. My doc told me that it just has to drain on its own since it wasn't a horrible one and wasn't infected. I have not had any problems since. I know your worried but if they did the CT they would be ale to tell if it was more than fluid, hang in there! Hope things clear up quickly for you.

Re: Bleeding/ Hematoma

With my hysterectomy at 29 due to severe prolapse, I had a hematoma that ruptured on 4th day. Happened that evening in the hospital. Went to surgery, in which bleeders were difficult to stop. Just as they would get me repaired suture everything back up more bleeders would rupture. Basically I am very fortunate that I was still in hospital because dr said I wouldn't have survived. Lost blood very rapidly and great amounts. Had 12 units of blood! Two weeks after that developed another, but that was quickly repaired and didn't require transfusions. With this said, that was 29 years ago and much has improved since. Good to keep in touch with your doctor. Hopefully it will subside soon.

Bleeding/ Hematoma

Beltkm Thank you for your response! That's true if there was something else the CT would of showed it. I guess I worry it may be something more serious. It's hard to know what's normal and what's not! Prayers for a healthy recovery!

Campkat3, Wow! What an experience you had. I'm not bleeding that much and yes I'm communicating with my doctor. I'm glad it's in the past and you're doing good!

I really appreciate your support! Very encouraging to know there's other women that understand what I'm/ my body is going through
