discharge & leaking 8 weeks post hyster

hi, i'm a new member.

i'm 64 yrs old and i had a radical hysterectomy last may 2011 due to uterine cancer. i was ok and not bleeding for 4 weeks after surgery. after 4 weeks, i started to have a watery vaginal discharge with some bleeding. i don't know what the sticky mucous-like liquid is. the discharge was pinkish red and at times brownish-red (like old blood). i was constipated once and i had bright red blood for a bit.

i went to the doctor and he did not find any infection. i was told the discharge would go away in time. another doctor looked into it again and found a lesion inside my vagina which was biopsied. i don't have the result of the biopsy yet.

now i'm almost 8 weeks post op ... in the last 4 or 5 weeks i have been having a sticky watery discharge with some light red or brown bleeding. both discharge and leaking seem to be less now... but gets a bit heavy sometimes. i have no pain or any kind of discomfort.

i'm getting concerned. i'm guessing these are internal surgical wounds that may have opened. i wonder if i overexerted myself. will this heal in time? is there anything one can do to heal faster? i have an appointment with the doctor in two weeks.

Re: discharge & leaking 8 weeks post hyster

Lynne R., I was told by my Dr. that as long as I had internal sutures I may have a pink/brown/watery discharge. I am five weeks out and still have all of my sutures so I still have a little light brown discharge now. However a week ago I had a UTI which gave me worse discharge with an odor. 7 days of bactrim seems to have taken care of that.

Re: discharge & leaking 8 weeks post hyster

Hi (((Lynne R)))
I'm sorry to hear you're still experiencing this discharge. I know they are unpleasant and make you wonder what in the world is going on to cause it.
For you to be this far out and still experiencing this seems unusual to me. I encourage you to call the dr again and have it checked out. You should be healing up and this kind of thing coming to an end. I hope you can get in soon and find out what's happening to cause this to continue.
Let us know what you find out.
Rita
