another uterine biopsy
Im having a uterine biopsy tomorrow. Third year in a row. My doctor has suggested a hysterectomy because of my 2 week long periods. Plus fibroids.( I would love to have one but time and money doesn't allow it)my biopsies have been negative. Is a yearly biopsy seem over the top? Or have you experienced the same cautiousness from your doctor?

another uterine biopsy
Hi! I'm sending you a hug of support! These biopsy deals are invasive and when if you have been getting the all-clear from your biopsies they may seem an unnecessary trial. But things can change in a year, so if you can afford (time/money) to get checked out then why not? I had my first biopsies February last year. After several years of no periods ( caused by not ovulating) i woke to a bed of blood clots. After the exam under anaesthetic they did biopsies and found fibroids, nabothian cysts and adenomyosis. 18 months later I asked my family doctor for a follow-up scan. She said no, and gave me a prescription for 10 days of progesterone to induce a period. I tried to discuss how having a period would tell me what was growing inside me, but some doctors have fixed ideas. So I organised a scan via the gynae dr that did the op last year. 3 days later I was having another exam and biopsies under anaesthetic. The path report said "highly suspicious if not worse". 2 weeks later my uterus, cervix, tubes and ovaries were removed. That was 4 weeks ago. However, during the first of those ops I had a mirena device put in, to prevent the build up of my endometrium ( the uterine layer that sheds). Have you been advised of the availability or suitability of a mirena rather than having a hysterectomy? They are used commonly to relieve excessive bleeding here. Hope all goes well for you.

Re: another uterine biopsy
Thank you Supernova. We haven't discussed anything really besides hysterectomy. I had an ablation 8 years ago. It worked ok?? I have 3 golf ball size fibroids. And a prolapse. My period flow is only 2-3 days but I spot for another 13 days. It's annoying. I had my biopsy today. It wasn't as bad as last time. I have to remind myself that he is being cautious. I wish I would just bite the bullet and have the surgery. I know I would feel better. How are you doing Supernova? Did they find your pathology benign?

Re: another uterine biopsy
Hi sheri smiles, I'm glad to hear you are safely through your latest procedure. I hope you are being gentle with yourself. The combined physical and psychological stresses of these womens things are intense. Probably something involved with the fight to reproduce or some other clever part of our design as women! Thanks for asking after me. I'm doing okay physically, except for sleep. Have been sleeping pretty much every second night since coming home, with that long, long, allnighter on alternate nights. Got a new family doctor today who was brilliant, and some med changes. My second path report was clear, but as with endo, little changed cells can and do travel and set up shop elsewhere. I always imagined women's bits to be a 'one way in one way out' system (haha), but things have ways of moving inside us between organs and symptoms! Of course as a nurse I knew this, but its funny how we have perceptions about our bodies that don't match our intellectual knowledge. I'm waiting with you for your path report, so please post how it goes. And until then, stay well!
