Re: What happens at the post-0p appt?

For my surgery my doc does one every two weeks.

First appointment he looked at the incision, talked about my pain levels, and asked about discharge. Then he went over what we would do at the next one in two weeks.

Hope everything goes well for you.

Re: What happens at the post-0p appt?

All doctors are different. I had an appt. 2 weeks post-op and all he did was look at the incision and answer any questions. I went again at 5 weeks and he checked me internally and answered questions. That is it. I'm done!

Re: What happens at the post-0p appt?

I went in after one week of TAH to have staples removed. Doctor went over post-op care again, answered questions, gave me lab reports, and told me what to expect at the 5 week post-op appointment.
At the 5 week appointment he did an internal exam to check healing, talked to me about easing back into my normal life, and released me for anything I wanted to do.
I hope all goes well for you tomorrow.
Best Wishes,
B

Re: What happens at the post-0p appt?

I had three appts. One was a week after the surgery and he checked everything, then again at two weeks and then at six weeks. Each one was to see how I was doing and tell me what I could do at that stage of my recovery. The best advice I can give you is do whatever he/she says. I did and I had an excellent recovery with no complications.

Re: What happens at the post-0p appt?

I think all doctors have different ideas of what they do on the first post op visit. I had to have mine moved up due to problems and they did an internal exam. Just a suggestion that helped me(they warned me on the phone that an internal exam might be done) was to take my pain meds prior to the appointment. My doc was real gentle but it wasn't very comfortable. If you are having a problem, they may need to check you out. Sending lots of hugs. I'm sure it will be ok. I think after I was so relieved that everything was fine that it really only caused a little discomfort for a few minutes. Best of luck.

Re: What happens at the post-0p appt?

I will be 5 weeks post op on Tuesday and have my first appointment with my gyn doctor. The only reason it isn't at 6 weeks is because my surgery date got moved and we didn't move my post op appointment. Otherwise, my doctor only sees me at 6 weeks post op unless I was having a problem that couldn't be handled over the phone. Since I had a bladder lift, I will see my urologist at 6 weeks. I did have to go see him at 3-1/2 weeks due to pain with urination, but that has resolved with some medication he gave me (I had slipped in the shower so I think that irritated everything). He did an internal exam at that time and told me I was healing nicely. I know my gyn doctor will do an internal exam on Tuesday. I printed out the list of questions to ask the doctor and added some of my own. It looks like a huge list, but they are short questions. Let us know what your doctor says and hope all is well.
