11 days post hysterectomy: Why does my urine smell so bad?

Sorry for the title, I didn't know how else to put it. My urine smells like ammonia?! Every second or third time I go to the bathroom I get a pain in my left side where my c-section scar is like something is being squeezed. Oh and a small amount of bright blood shows up on the toilet paper. I'm drinking water and other fluids and everything seems to be working as normal but what the heck is with the smell?

It could very well be a UTI. You should go to the doctor and get it tested. You may need a course of antibiotics. If that's not it, you may need to drink a whole lot more water to make sure you've flushed out all the anesthesia and painkillers.

Thanks Elsie. I am afraid of that. I've been on some wicked antibiotics since I came out of the hospital and am still taking them. I would have thought they'd clear out any kind of infection anywhere. I stopped taking my pain killers the day before yesterday except for at bed time and now I feel this pain. Guess I'll be going to see my doctor on Monday!

Not all antibiotics work on all infections. But, also it could be the antibiotics that cause the smell. It's sort of a no win situation there. I'm happy you'll be seeing your doc. Let us know how it goes!
