body not responding.....

Dear Sisters,
I am about 9 weeks post op. Had abdominal hysterectomy , kept one ovary. ( had very enlarged uterus and large fibroid with some endo onthe bad ovary)

I have not been feeling well. Moody, and tearful a lot. With our latest attempt at sex, my body will just not respond. My breasts feel dead, whereas they were so very sensitive only 2 weeks ago. I go in for antother appot on May3rd to check on how I am feeling ( hormone wise I think, becasue do was very pleased with my healing and very surprised I wasn't feeling MUCH better than before surgery considering what he removed!)

I got the book The HOrmone Soltion and asome progesterone cream. I am holding off using the cream incase Doc want to do hormone levels at my next visit.(I don't think he will....I believe his is more likely to jump on the HRT wagon)

I didn't know what folks were talking about with sex being not good. I jsut felt if it could happen at all it would be okay ( we do not have a very active life that way...never had) I just want to feel like I am participating when it does happen.

Any suggestions?

Blessings and thankyou for your thoughts,
Beth

Hi Beth,

I'm so sorry you are feeling frustrated and discouraged. I just wanted to encourage you to hang in there. I know I've had moments of frustration also, believing that at the six week mark all would be feeling normal again. I had my surgery a few days before you and still haven't even been released for sex. My recovery has gone slowly with a lot of bladder issues post-op. There are days I get angry about how long this is taking, but I'm trying to remember to take it all in steps. I feel better this week then I did last week and am hopeful that I will feel even a little better next week. I guess my point is . . . . it's still early in your recovery, maybe not by what the books say, but by what your body is saying. I would give it some more time. My GYN told me before the surgery that there was a lot of nerves affected during this surgery and that sometimes sex can take time. I'm glad he shared this with me because I don't have expectations right away. My sister also had a hysterectomy and she said it took about four months before she "felt" anything. She said it's a lot better now. I have read the other posts about sisters who craved sex after surgery (me, couldn't even stand the thought of it-my poor hubby lol) and who had orgasms right away. I think when we read these posts it makes us expect that we will be right there having the same response. Just remember we are all healing differently. I don't have a lot of input with the hormones, as I kept my ovaries But I sense some frustration with your doctor and the whole hormone issue. Have you considered another doctor? You should be able to visit with him about all this and feel comfortable talking about your concerns.

Take care,

jmw
