almost 3 months post hysterectomy & still discouraged
It is true that nurses make the worst patients! I am 34 and had a total radical hysterectomy almost 3 months ago. I have been back to work for 3 weeks and every day I grow more tired and weak. After 3 months I thought, after research, I would be feeling better. My stomach still swells and I still have a phantom pain in my stomach. I talked to my dr at 6 weeks and she told me I was fine. Now that I am back to work I am worried about this fatigue. Does it ever go away??? I can sleep great all night and by noon the next day I am so tired I can barely keep my eyes open, the swelling gets worse and the pain returns like clockwork. Has anyone else gone through these symptoms? What can I do to help myself?

Re: almost 3 months and still discouraged
I'm three months out as well and I am feeling a bit of pain near the location of where my cervix used to live. This just recently started and has me worried. I'm new to this site so I'm not sure where to even post this. My stomach feels really fat and flabby now.

That is where my pain is... although it is more on the left side. The dr told me phantom pain is normal. But in research I have not come across alot of phantom pain posts or issues.

Yes! Something similar happened to me. The good news is that yes, the fatigue does go away but it does hang on for a long, long time. It took me several months to not feel so tired. I also had pain and swelling after my surgery. I actually went on a business trip and started to swell up so much that I couldn't fit in most of my clothes. I came home, things got a bit better but then about two weeks later, I ended up in the hospital with what turned out to be a 6 inch hemorrhagic cyst. Then I had to have a second surgery to remove the cyst. It was a tougher surgery than the hysterectomy for me because the ovary had moved and was trying to adhere itself to the top of my cervical cuff.
So, I would recommend going back to your doctor and explaining your symptoms. Some of it is normal but some of it might be a sign of something else. It's best to stay on top of your health!

I had the vaginal pain near what I think was the cervix. It was actually atrophy and dryness. It would feel like someone was bouncing on my vagina and poking me with a pin every time they came down!! (hate those gremlins!). After year I finally got serious about it first using replens and now coconut oil every other night in the vagina to moisten the tissue.

Can I ask, what is a hemorrhagic cyst? Was it caused by your hysterectomy? Just curious because I have not heard if it.

Re: almost 3 months post hysterectomy & still discouraged
Hi,
A hemorrhagic cyst is like a regular ovarian cyst but is filled with blood (not to be confused with a chocolate cyst). It wasn't caused by the hysterectomy. My doctors think it's related to my hormone imbalance (which likely was the root cause for my hysterectomy). Because it was so large, it caused a lot of pain and when I first went to the ER, they thought I had a kidney stone because I was in so much pain.

I wasn't either until I had one! But for some reason my body tried to solve a lot of problems by filling them with blood....it mostly resulted in getting things removed. Lol!

Re: almost 3 months post hysterectomy & still discouraged
The swelling and achiness and fatigue can last for a while for many of us. It really can take 6-12 months to feel "back to normal". Having said that, perhaps there is something else going on to make you feel this way.
Why do you feel your pain is "phantom pain"? It could be real pain. Have you requested an ultrasound or CT to rule out cysts, free fluid in the abdomen, or seroma? The fact that you're sleeping all night but utterly exhausted by noon makes me wonder if you're body's energy is going towards fighting an infection or still healing. Have you had bloodwork done recently? Please don't allow your feelings to be brushed aside. Trust in yourself and what your body is telling you. If something doesn't feel right, keep going back to the doctor. In the meantime, is it possible to work part time or half days?
I know how it feels when you expect to be back to normal but you just keep feeling fatigued and sore and swollen. I am sending you big hugs, Sweetie.
