1 week Post Hysterectomy: Nauseated & Lack of Appetite

Hi Beautiful Ladies,

It's been one week today I had a TAH. I'm feeling great no pain have been doing slot of walking just a little sore get my staples out on Monday. But I have been very naucious. I have drunk peppermint teas and lots of water but I can't get this bad taste out of my mouth. I really don't have an appetite eating lots of soup.Any suggestions? I am also a total mess I cry at the drop of a hat. Is there anyone else out there feeling the same.
Good luck to all the ladies out there.

Re: One week Post Hysterectomy

Ice cold smoothies help me with nausea when I have a migraine. Might be worth a try?

If you like ginger, nibbling on a little bit of crystallized ginger might help with the nausea and the taste.

Re: 1 week Post Hysterectomy: Nauseated & Lack of Appetite

Hello & Welcome! I am glad to hear you're doing well with no pain. Walking is great as we heal; it helps get the digestive system working again.

Crying and feeling emotional is very common post op. I cried soooo much during my recovery! Our hormones can be out of whack for a while and these fluctuations can make us weepy. It does get better! Ask your family for lots of hugs.

I also had a very low appetite and lost quite a bit of weight post op. For nausea, try:
  • Ginger ale or ginger tea
  • Peppermint (in the form of tea or lozenges)
  • Aromatherapy (peppermint or lemon oil)
  • Foot massage
  • BRAT diet (bananas, rice, applesauce, toast)
  • Cool compress on your forehead or back of your neck
  • Put your feet up
  • Suck on frozen lime or lemon slices
  • Fresh air - open a window
  • Drink cold water
  • dimenhydrinate (brand names: Dramamine or Gravol) - check with your doctor first.
I hope you feel better soon!
