How Many Days In Hospital with Da Vinci

I just had my first surgery - the D&C yesterday and all went well. We should find out tomorrow or Thursday if any cancer is found aside from the atypia. The TVH & BSO is scheduled for Friday - still don't know if they will end up taking out lymph nodes but wanted to see how long your hospital stay was for any of your ladies that had the Da Vinci surgery?

Thanks for all the feedback.

How Many Days In Hospital with Da Vinci

My surgery was 7:30 a.m. Monday morning and I was released at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday morning. They had me up and walking the halls a few hours after surgery. The catheter came out around the same time. I was not able to urnitate the first time, but made it on the second attempt. I had solid food for dinner the same day which I was able to keep down without any problems.

They measured my urine ouput, had me using a hand-held breathing machine and I wore the leg wraps to prevent blood clots until Tuesday morning. Pain was very manageable and was controlled with Toradol.

Most of my time in the hospital was spent trying to rest. I had no visitors other than my DH, which was fine with me.

I would suggest that you be sure to get your pain med just before your ride home. A small pillow to place between you and the seat belt is very helpful. I did not shower until I arrived home.

I brought nothing with me to the hospital because my stay was going to be so short and I didn't want anything to vanish.

How Many Days In Hospital with Da Vinci

I had my surgery at 7:30 am on a Monday and went home at dinner time on Tuesday. I could have gone home earlier on Tuesday, but I had some serious gas pains, mostly in my shoulders, and nobody had explained to me that might happen. So, I had been only taking Tylenol and the nurse gave me a pain killer which made me so nauseous I needed to wait so I didn't throw up in the car.
I was up and using the bathroom as soon as I got to my room. I had no catheter, so that wasn't a problem. I would have been up and walking more but I had those blow up things on my legs and it was a pain to get the disconnected everytime I needed to get out of bed. I couldn't wait to get home and slept so much better in my own better. Other than that one time all I needed was Tylenol for pain.
The DaVinci method is great...it's no walk in the park but definitely easier than the traditional surgery.

It depends on your doctor and your insurance. I am a federal employee with federal insurance and I had DaVinci on 3/3/09. My doc said I could stay up to 23 hours. My surgery was at 7:30 a.m., I was in recovery from 10:30 until 12:15, in my room and awake @ 4 pm when my DH and kids came by and up and dressed by 5 pm. I was released by my doctor at 7:30 pm. I have had 5 laparascopies and wasn't prepared for the gas pains, diarrhea and constipation that I had for the 1st week. I would do it again if given the chance, though.

I had surgery at 1:00 pm and was released from the hospital before lunch the next day. I had bought a small pillow ahead of time for the ride home but found that I didn't need it. Also didn't need any pain meds.

One suggestion I would make is to have a really comfortable pair of sweatpants to wear when you leave the hospital. Regular pants could rub on your incisions depending on where yours will be. I had three on my waist area and two on each side lower down. Think it's different with everyone.

Good luck with your surgery.
