Anyone had TVH & repairs under spinal anaesthetic?
I have been talking to my anaesthetist about the possibility of avoiding a general anaesthetic by having a spinal (possibly with conscious sedation) instead. I am prone to random catastrophic reactions to generally innocuous medications and I take ages to recover from GAs so ...
Anyone tried this?
It's a two hour surgery. I am leaning to the GA but I hate hate hate vomiting and my experience is GA=vomit. Anaesthetist says he uses hard core anti-emetics (zofran) to prevent and treat nausea and vomiting with great success.
thoughts?

Just for your info, Zofran did not work for me. Stematil on the other hand did work.

Re: Anyone had TVH & repairs under spinal anaesthetic?
I had a vaginal hysterectomy done with a spinal, but no repairs, so my surgery was about 1 hour. I also have horrible vomiting after GA, so it worked really well for me. They did give me a tiny bit of GA, so I don't remember anything from before they inserted the spinal and then I was being wheeled out into recovery. The spinal was left in for the next day for pain relief, so I didn't need any narcotics at all, which was great for me.
For me, a spinal worked great & I would do it again the same way. Good luck with your surgery!
