3 months post-op...stitches didn't dissolve...discharge...uncomfortable sex...yikes

Hey, ladies! Here's a topic I haven't seen a lot on this board, so I thought I'd post in case someone else is having the same issues.

So I had my post-op at about 5 weeks, and doc told me to wait until 8 weeks for sex (no exceptions). I was a good patient and waited until cleared. The sex was a bit uncomfortable, but pretty good, actually, and I figured that we just needed to ease back into things.

THEN one day during intercourse, I had major pain, followed by some pretty heavy pink spotting. Throughout my recovery, I'd had pretty heavy spotting (off-white), so I was more than a little concerned when it turned pink.

We are without health insurance right now, so I was hesitant to call my doc. After a few days of really uncomfortable cramping, I broke down and called.

I had my appointment last Thursday, and it turns out that my stitches hadn't dissolved! Yep, three months later and I still had all my stitches. The doc removed them during my office visit, which was pretty uncomfortable. She also let me know that the level of discharge that I'd been having was not normal. She also said that the discharge was a sign that there was something "foreign" present. By the way, there was also some granulation tissue forming, which she treated with silver nitrate.

Anyway, it's been pretty uncomfortable the last few days, but I'm glad that the stitches are out and that I call my doc. While situations like this are probably rare, I thought it was worth sharing in case any of you were in similar circumstances.

To all of you recovering, take heart! Even with these complications, I am so glad to be on the other side of this surgery. Blessings and healing to you all....

I had a similar situation. I went in at 4 months post op because my DH could still feel the stiches during sex and I was having cramping everyday. Sure enough they had not dissolved and they were too short to get out (believe me th doc tried). Finally around 5 1/2 months post op DH could no longer feel them and the cramping started to subside. I did not have any discharge or bleeding. Hope you are doing well.
