It's decided- I'm having hysterectomy TLH

Had my saline ultrasound yesterday which was surprisingly unpleasant. Turns out my uterus is "heavy with fibroids". I don't have all of the measurements yet as my report is being completed but she wanted to discuss it with me right after the procedure due to the pain I've been having. She said she had a hard time getting the saline in to inflate my uterus because the weight of the fibroids kept wanting to push it down and out my cervix. Also she said she could feel a couple that seemed hard as if maybe they were calcified. In any case knowing all this and that I am definitely in menopause she could not in good conscience recommend Lupron.

Embolization isn't an option as she feels it would only make my pain much worse than it already is. So hysterectomy it will be. I need to work it into my work schedule (year end, audit work etc) and budget the $ for the deductible. But I'm looking at most likely March at the earliest. It would be TLH keeping ovaries.
So now I just start the planning and deal with the pain knowing it's temporary.
I sort of knew it was coming to this. I had a nice long reprieve where these fibroids went into hiding but that is apparently over. Its actually kind of a relief to have acknowledgement that there is a reason for it all. The constant heaviness, pain sitting, the pants I can no longer wear, being married to my heating pad.

Thanks for all of the info. Yes. Now I can take some time and get my house in shape for my recovery. Luckily I figured out my year end work schedule today and it's looking like things are going to line up well. I am interested in what some of you who have dealt with fibroids have done for pain relief in the interim? That's my biggest struggle at the moment. Ob-Gyn's don't seem to be very in tune with the pain relief side of things. At least that's what I've seen. I do need to see my primary to get some stuff done pre-surgery so I am thinking he will be more responsive to my needs in that area. Ibuprofen is not cutting it...and I do take my heating pad to work but it doesn't work all the time.
