Don't be afraid :)
Hi! I had my LSH last week. I just want to say that although I was very nervous before surgery, all went really well -- better than I expected. My surgeon was not sure if he could do the surgery laproscopically; fortunately, he was able to do so. It was discovered that I had two very large fibroids in my uterus, with multiple small ones as well.
In addition to the LSH, I also had a hernia repaired .. so it was a two-in-one day!
I have very small incision marks. Really no pain, other than being a little sore. I did not require much pain medication in the hospital and have taken Motrin if I feel uncomfortable. Another thing -- I was very afraid to have a catheter. When I awoke from surgery, I realized I did have one, and I was glad to have it. I was too tired to get out/bed, and it was not uncomfortable at all. Having it removed was also "no big deal". So there .
The message I would like to share with you is ... you can do this, you will be FINE. Anticipation is the hardest thing. Good luck to you, little sisters... you are stronger than you think.

Princess BellaNina
Welcome home, BellaNina! Glad to hear your castle stay went so well and that you are home recovering. That's great you hardly had any pain with your LSH. That sounds like the way to go if it's possible! (I wished I could have had a vag hyst when 2 of my friends had a much easier time of it than I did with my TAH!) But you still have numerous internal stitches that need to heal without stress on them, so take it easy. Rest a lot and walk a little, and enjoy being pampered. s

I'm glad your hospital stay went so well for you and that you're home now.
Please don't try to do too much too soon.

Thanks for the encouragement. I really needed to hear it right now. Best of luck for a speedy recovery - but don't push too much!

Dear Bella Nina,
Glad to hear all went well for you! What a relief to have surgery behind you. I am scheduled for a LSH on 8-23-02. Doing Lupron now to shrink fibroids.
Glad to hear catheter was no big deal for you but do want to pass on some advice to other sisters. I don't think they usually cathertize until you are under for hysterectomy but 2 yrs ago I had an Uterine Artery Embolization and they placed the catheter before I was sedated or given anything. That was not fun. It did not bother me after I awoke from the surgery or when removed. I will make sure that I am out or sedated before they insert catheter this time!
goodluck on your recovery!
Sally
