The count down to surgery begins....
I'm brand new to this message board, but already I've had many questions answered and many fears calmed. So thank you everyone! I'm pretty much alone with this surgery thing. My SO has been wonderful, but, well, he is a man afterall!! So I really appreciate all the words of wisdom....
I'm scheduled for a Laproscopic hysterectomy on May 28th. Just wondering what are some wise things to do prior to that date?
Also those of you who have had Lap's, what is the average recovery time. I really need to get back to work in 3 weeks!
Thanks, in advance, for your help.

I am 3 1/2 weeks post-op from a LSH. I am very, very happy with my surgery results!!!
Would do it again in a second!!! I had a great Dr. and no complications. I went in as an outpatient for the surgery in the morning and I was released to go home by 6:00 PM.
My most important tip would be to take it easy. With laps, the recovery time is faster and still, do not push yourself or compare yourself to other Sisters. This is YOUR rodeo!!!!
I rested and laid on the couch for the first few days. I made it up and down stairs the first day after surgery. By day four, I went to the video store with my mom, who was staying with my DH and I. On Day 5 and 6, I also worked up to one errand a day. By my one week post op appointment, I was doing a couple of errands with my mom.
A suggestion on clothes and a pillow?? I found my fat sweats a little snug feeling the first days after surgery - with the swelly belly the ladies talk about. Goes away in a few days. I am a normal weight and I can just suggest - have some XX- large pants with drawstrings laying around. One Hyster Sister suggested men's pajamas. Just no pressure on the stomach area. And a small pillow?? You can stuff it in your pants if you want a little "cushiony" feeling.
I did not feel exhausted as other Hyster Sisters have posted. I have been sleeping really well and I just stayed on the prescribed pain medication until the prescription was finished. And, my pain has been mild at best. I also have stayed away from lifting anything heavy.
PAMPER yourself for a few days is what I am trying to say!!! You deserve it!!!!
I went back to work at 2 weeks. Just took it slow. Delegate jobs if you can.
Everyone's recovery is different. Just go at your own speed and go with your own inner clock. Do what feels good for you!!
Good luck with your lap surgery. I will be rooting for you!!

Hi,
My doctor released me for all normal activity a week after surgery. I had LSH. Recovery time for LSH is much quicker but it's still major surgery. I felt pretty good after 1st week but you still need to give yourself time to heal up. If your doctor thinks you can go back to work in 3 weeks time that's great, but if it's determined you need an extra couple weeks then that's what you need to do.
You should make sure you have some comfortable "granny" underwear and some loose fitting pants or shorts. It will be more comfortable for you during the swelly belly time and easier to get up over the little incision areas.
You'll be fine.

Thanks a million, History Lady! Your response was just what I needed to hear.
What kind of anesthesia did you have? The doc told me general, but I'd really like to have a spinal instead. Some of the other Sisters have really praised it for speeding post-op recovery time.
Bless you for your kindness :>)

A very big thanks to you, too, Alrunes! That's a wonderful progress report! I hope I will be able to recover as nicely....
It's so great to know I'm not alone in this "fun" I'm about to have!

Zuzugpig,
Thank-you for your reply. Gosh....I guess I had a general. Stupid me. I had it in my IV. I felt really.....good when my "A" did it!! They also put an antibiotic into my IV. Said it helped ward off the "eeby...geeby" germs, was the way my nurse put it. I did not remember anything until I woke up in recovery.
And Alrunes......a large fibroids LSH Hyster Sister like me!! I have read some of your posts this evening on different forums. Thank-you!!
