Not As Bad As I Expected
I got home yesterday and I don't feel so bad. I remember very little about the time before the surgery but the staff at University Hospital was the best. I almost hated to leave. When I was brought back to my room, I was happy to have had a private room that was on the sunniest side of the building. I had no pain, and I was not using the PCA pump and the nurses informed me that I should use it as much as possible to prevent any pain. My surgeon tried to do a vaginal one, but my utereus was too large. I got a bikini cut and I have no pain. I almost think they lied about the whole thing, until I had gas pains.Oh My Gosh, what the hell. I was more than happy to get up walk which helped 100 percent. I still have not had a bowel movement, and it's been 5 days, so I am a bit scared to have one. I do have a stool softener that I have been taking and eating the right foods. So I will see what happens today. I was given disolvable stitches with sterile strips so I don't have to return until the 9th of May. My only complaint is that my left hip hurts and I have to manually raise my left leg with my hands to get in the car and to lay on the bed. I had a car accident in Feb and it was a bit tender at that time, maybe it's from that as well as having my legs in stirrups for about 4 hours. If it doesn't get better in two days I will call the doctor. It has gotten a bit better. I am feeling fine.

Not As Bad As I Expected
Welcome Home Fournee!!
It's great to hear from someone who had a good surgery and isn't feeling too bad. Even though you feel pretty good, remember to take it easy for awhile.

Welcome home! I am pretty sure your leg/hip pain is from the stirrups. Mine were the same way and I had less time in them than you (only for bladder tvt and rectocele repair) hyst was done abdominally. Hugs Raymo

that first BM is the scariest. i wont lie, it was painful. but i quickly found out that my birthing techniques helped ALOT. When I go in the bathroom, when the pain hits, breath in deeply through your nose, then exhale slowly through your mouth. continue this through the entire BM,not only does it help push it through easier, it takes away ALOT of the pain. Trust me, it works!

Great to hear that things are overall GOOD...they will probably get better a bit everyday. WEl l wishes!( I was scared of my first BM too and it was maybe 6or 7 days before it. I started stool softener from DR when I left hospital at three days)

I'm glad you are feeling well. Like the others said, still take is easy. I felt the same way. The surgery wasn't that painful. The gas pains kicked in the day after surgery. Wow! They were very uncomfortable. I started taking a stool softener in the hospital and continued at home. I finally had a "movement" on day 5. I can't lie. It was excrutiating! The worst pain out of the who surgery process. I would actually sweat profusely and felt like I might pass out. (I had endo on my bowel really, really bad, which explains the pain I was in.) Controlled breathing helped manage the pain. I'm almost 4 weeks post-op and it is much better now. Continue your stool softener and drink plenty of fluids. I hope your's is not as painful as mine was, but if it is, remember that it's temporary. Each day brings improvements!

Welcome home. I had the gas probs too. Hurt more than the incision. That first bm was scary but with stool softener goes well. I am eating bran and drinking a little prune juice each day to keep it.....well, let's just say to make it easier. Take care and good to see you here!
