Kidney infection 7 weeks post op

Hi everyone, I'm new to this site but I'm hoping someone can shed some light on how I'm feeling. I had TAH on 30/11 and first few days were fine but then my bowel went to sleep. Had to stay in hosp a few days longer, finally discharged but on the day I got home my bowel went to sleep again....vomiting,pain etc...hubby called an ambulance (I was told by the ambulance officers to "toughen up" so we got a gp out & she said I caught a virus, back to emergency & put on a drip (2 bags of fluid) then discharged that night. Recovery has been slow. I had my 6 week check & dr said internal stitches haven't healed I need to give it a few more weeks. He removed everything but left my ovaries & 1 Fallopian tube. On the weekend I started to get what felt like kidney pain. Monday morn it was so severe it woke me so I went doctors. Urine test showed blood & protein & he said kidney infect but would send sample away could be kidney stones. Sometimes the pain feels like it's my left ovary (which was my original reason for having hyst in first place) why he left it I don't understand as he had told me pre op he would remove it. Has anyone else had these issues. I'm now terrified of hospitals & doctors & pray it's not the ovary, don't want another op just want to feel better & normal again.

Sounds like you have been through a lot! I would say that it does sound like you have a kidney infection based on what your urinalysis showed. I get them a LOT and it comes back with blood and protein, but mine also comes back showing bacteria...do you know if you had leukocytes present as well?? This is usually a sign of infection.

It could also be kidney stones...most people are extremely ill, are in horrific pain, and have trouble urinating...does that sound like what you have?

I'm hoping it is something simple like a kidney infection that can be treated with antibiotics and you don't have to go through another surgery. You have already been through enough.

Please keep us posted on what you find out. I hope you start feeling better very soon and can move forward with your recovery!

Thanks so much for your reply. The doctor didn't say if there were leukocytes present, he only mentioned protein & blood but I get results of further testing next week. When I urinate it doesn't burn or sting but my left side near lower rib cage hurts and even though sometimes I'm busting to go toilet it takes awhile for me to actually empty my bladder. I sometimes feel like a stabbing & pulling pain in my left ovary & can't figure out if it's the kidney infec radiating down to the ovary or if the ovary is also causing problems again.
I've woken up this morning with the pain still present and was hoping there would have been a change since this will be my third day of antibiotics. Hopefully the pain gets better.

Re: Kidney infection 7 weeks post op

I hope it gets better for you as well. Unfortunately our bodies are very complicated and it could be that the pain is actually from your ovary, but radiating to your kidney area....or vise versa!!

I have always had problems with kidney infections. I never had burning or stinging with urination at all. Flank pain was always my first symptom.

Well, I sure hope you get your results back soon, so hopefully they can get you taken care of and put your mind to rest!! For now, try a heating pad on your kidney area...it feels FABULOUS!!!

to you!!
